A blush crept onto my cheeks at his words. He wanted me to touch him. I mean no he didn't...he was curious is all. He has no idea what I look like therefore he couldn't like me the way I liked him.
"I don't know if you are thinking about it or if you are actually touching me and I can't feel it. I mean I haven't looked at the ouija board so maybe you said no?" He ranted as he moved towards the board.
"Sorry, I'm a bit disoriented right now. I seemed to have lost my glasses."
The thought of him wearing glasses made me chuckle. For some reason didn't seem like the type. Yet, I doubt that they would disturb his calm handsomeness.
He squinted his eyes and looked around the room for his glasses and I decided to help him. I stood up and walked around the room, being careful not to fall over anything.
After a few moments of searching, I spotted his glasses on top of a bookshelf.
I walked over to the wooden shelf and reached my hand up but could not reach it. I stood on my tip toes and steadied myself against the shelf and picked up the glasses. But as I removed my hand I knocked down a couple of books and Carter's eyes snapped to my direction.
"Carter!" His mom yelled. "Keep it down please! I'm in a meeting."
"You're getting me into trouble." He whispered.
"Sorry." I whispered back as if he could hear me.
He came close to where I was and picked up the two books I had dropped.
"I don't know if you dropped these intentionally but these books are..." He shook his head in awe. "Absolutely remarkable."
Unbeknownst to him I was holding my breath. I was trapped between the shelf and him and I didn't know what to do.
I looked to his curly brown hair and itched to reach out and run my fingers through it.
"Have you ever read them?" He asked as he held up one book. "Romeo and Juliet, of course." He said with a charming smirk as he set it down.
"And American Psycho...not everyone's cup of tea but I find it fascinating." He admitted nervously.
I smiled to myself as I thought about our situation. A boy was talking to a dead girl...about books. It sounded like a ridiculous romantic comedy.
I mean, maybe it could've been. If I was alive...
A troubled look passed his features for a quick moment before he smiled again and placed the book back on the shelf.
He looked down in my direction and I followed his eyes to an item in my hand. I had forgotten that I was still holding his glasses and raised them up.
"You found them." He said with a grin.
I smiled back at him as I opened the glasses and moved it in front of us.
"You're going to put them on me?" He asked.
I didn't understand why he kept asking me questions knowing I couldn't answer. His forgetfulness was adorable though, I had to admit.
I moved the glasses up and down in the same motion as a nod to tell him yes.
He followed the movements of the glasses and nodded slowly. "Ahh, well go on then."
I raised the glasses up but I couldn't make it all the way to his face. I was barely a few inches over five feet and he looked over six feet.
As if getting the hint, he lowered himself to his glasses and I slipped them onto his ears.
He opened his mouth to say something for a moment but closed it afterwards. He cleared his throat and stood up straight but remained looking down in my direction.
"I'm looking down because if I'm correct you can't be over...maybe 5'4. I'm judging this by the way I had to come down to you."
I was impressed by his guess and grinned up at him.
"I may be wrong though, and I look incredibly stupid just doing this." He said with a small laugh.
I laughed along with him and my stomach fluttered. I had never seen a boy this attractive before, I mean to be fair I wouldn't even remember if I had.
But he raised a feeling within me that should have been dead along with me.
He took a few steps away from me and walked to the table in his room. He organized the messy table and set aside a few books.
"By the way, I don't believe I mentioned it but my name is Carter. Carter Grey." He said as he moved a large stack of newspapers to an empty drawer.
Nice to meet you, Carter.
He took out a notebook and a blue pen and set it in the middle of the now clear desk.
"Umm...I'll be back in a moment." He began as he walked towards the door. Before he completely left the room he turned back to face the room. "Please don't leave."
I won't.
With that he ran down the hall and I took a seat on the bed.
Less than a minute later he returned to the room with a chair and set it next to the one in front of the table.
"I'd like to try something, if that's okay with you."
