The Afton family reunion | The Middle World

Chapter 7

The morning sun starts to wake me up with it strong light right on my eyes. My body felt really relax and with my hand I felt that I was holding something fluffy that moved up and down meaning it was breathing. To check what it was, I decided to take my other hand to put it in front of my eyes, so it can cover them from the light. Opening them slowly I look at my right, and I see a ginger dog. 'Strange I don't remember having a dog, nor a human body' I thought confused, looking at my human hand. When suddenly everything came back to me. My dead, the fire, balloons, Maya, the Middle World and my parents. I am pretty sure that my memories didn't come back in order but still, I am not trapped anymore and I have a chance to fix everything.

I smile slightly at the thought, but then I thought more about what happened yesterday. Maya's reaction was so strange and very confusing. I know I shouldn't get to much in to her life, but as always I still have the same curiosity that...killed me...why can't I stop haven't it...what is wrong with me?! My thoughts were getting haunted by more memories, my breathing was becoming faster, and my hands started to get sweaty. Then I felt something wet touch my nose. Opening my eyes, that I didn't realize that I had closed, was my little dog looking at me and licking my nose to save me from my thoughts. That made me feel very happy and safe, it also allowed my breathing to slow down. I took the dog in my arms and I hugged it tightly, but not to much to hurt it.

Suddenly my nose started to pick the smell of food that was coming from the kitchen. 'Mom has probably made breakfast already, I never thought I would get the chance to taste mom's food again' I thought feeling nostalgic and happy. My stomach then starts to make it's presence known, so I decide to get out of bed. My feet were touching the cold ground, but I just didn't care I was simply enjoying the feeling of being normal again and to actually feel something physically. I open the door of my room, the smell got so much heavier that it made me walk faster to go eat.

Walking in the kitchen I spotted my mother and...Maya? "Maya is that you," I ask curious. Maya who was drinking a glass of water while listening to my mother's story, looked at my direction when she heard her name. Smiling brightly she says, "Of course it's me I am the only one that knows your address after all." "Sorry, is just I wasn't expecting you to be here," I say feeling a little dump even if she didn't say anything in a mean way. "No need to apologize Gabriel, I know this situation is totally new for you, so it's normal to feel that way." She says reassuringly while crossing her feet.  "Anyway, I would have liked for this to be a visit, but sadly I am here to take you to your reunion," she says going straight to the point. I sigh smiling lightly thinking it was quite funny how she always avoid running around the bush.

"Is there something funny Mister Gabriel," she asks playfully as if she knew exactly what I was smiling about. "Not at all Miss," I said doing a salute signe. We looked at each other intensely, until we both started laughing by how ridiculous we were acting. My mother seeing me laugh, was crying of happiness. Then she asked Maya, "My dear, if is not so improper of me to ask, how old are you?" I looked at Maya to see her reaction to that question, and I curiously asked, "Yeah how old are you Maya?" She looks at both of us and then she says, "You'll be surprise, but I am actually 13 years old," she says taking a sip from her water. "Oh my , you are so young dear!" my mother says a little worried for the young girl. "Indeed I am," she says smiling with her usual smiles.

During that time I was just looking at her speechless, while I went take a sit beside Maya. How come she is so young and still build this world?! I was so amazed by her creation, but then I got worried. She is so young...like me well almost, isn't she supposed to live her childhood? Many things weren't making sense, and the more I thought about it the stronger my curiosity got. 'What is she?' that was the most present question in my mind. Suddenly I got shaken of my thoughts quite literally, by my mother's hand on my shoulder. "Darling are you alright?" she asks worried. I looked at her and said "I am alright mother I was just surprised by the new information." "Alright then," my mommy says while hugging me tightly. We stayed there in silence embracing each other. When Maya said, "I really hate ruining the moment, but your reunion is about to start and I cannot keep waiting all the other kids sadly." My mother and I let go of each other saying an of course and a sorry to Maya. "You don't need to be sorry to have emotions, so don't ever worry about it," the teen girl says while getting up.
