Getting Back to B06-32 [Yuugo]

"Emma? Emma, how are you?" Yuugo asked, walking back to where he had set the redhead on the ground so he could find water for the both of them. Emma meekly nodded her head, looking pained at just that simple movement.

Taking note of this, Yuugo maneuvered her to have her sitting and leaning on a tree, so she could drink some water. After making sure that she had hydrated enough to last for another four or so hours, Yuugo got her back into the sling-piggyback type position she was in previously to make it easy to travel without risking any further injury.

Having just come back into contact with humanity again and then being put in charge of assuring a somewhat of a stranger girl's safety during their travels through demon territory back to the shelter they considered their new home while the girl had been impaled and was probably bleeding to her death was,,, terrifying to Yuugo.

 Not only that, he has no way of knowing whether the other children and his childhood friend were safe on their own separate journey. The only reason he was able to go so fast was that it was only him and Emma taking the trek. Lucas and the rest of the children had several injuries throughout their group, with many of the injuries being amongst the strongest fighters. They were in danger not only because of the wild demons but also the risks of infection or early death due to bleeding out. Being worried about this many people was a feeling unfamiliar to the man who had lived alone for thirteen years.

Yet the best Yuugo could do was hope and move forward. Even that in itself was a somewhat foreign concept to him. A man on his last wits end ready to end it all, suddenly desiring survival and having the willingness to go forward and push through the struggles of life as a human residing on demon territory? Totally a whole change of character.

Feeling Emma's heartbeat and breath slow, Yuugo started to panic.

"Emma? EMMA? Emma, are you ok? Do you need to take a break? Should we change the bandage? Emma? EMMA?!" Yuugo was in a full-blown panic at this point, the small girl not responding to any of his questions. Quickly untying the sling, he set Emma on the grass-covered ground and tried to think of ways to wake her up and check if she was in fact, still alive.

"Oh my fucking god please don't die on me Gilda is going to kill me oh god oh fuck how do I wake you up-" Yuugo muttered, ransacking his backpack and looking for anything he could use to help him in this situation.

"Mmph?" Emma groaned, her eyelids fluttering. Yuugo quickly turned around, thanking whatever's up there that Emma was just asleep and not dead.

"Emma! Good, you woke up- How is the bandage? Does it need to be changed? If not the bandage, how about the gauze? Are you hungry? Thirsty? Do you need to stop for a few hours and just rest? We only have around 10 hours to go so we would arrive back at the bunker by around noontime? Do you think you can last that long?" Yuugo hurriedly asked, frantically fretting over the life of the twelve-year-old in front of him.

Emma just yawned, rubbing her abdomen where the bandage and gauze were rubbing against her skin.

"I'm so tired..." She finally whispered, the sentence trailing off as she started to drift off, causing Yuugo to panic even more.

"Shit, uh I know this hurts but stay awake ok? We can stop here for a bit and eat and drink and then we can get going and arrive in time for lunch ok? I got you. It's gonna be ok, you're gonna be ok. Just hang in there a little longer antenna." Yuugo said to her, once again ransacking his backpack for crackers and some water.

Emma nodded and shifted her position once again to a leaning seated pose.

"How are you doing Mister?" Emma asked, her voice shaky and frail. "You keep asking about me yet I've barely asked about you. Do you need a break? We don't have to rush this much. We're already speedrunning a three-week journey in just three days. It's ok to wait for a few hours."
