"It's gonna be a shit show" Logan whispered harshly to the rest of his team, who were circled around in the locker room. Nods were exchanged, as well as dismal groans.
"Is it really?" Cassian said from across the room as he put his jersey on. Logan's eyes widened and several teammates slapped him upside the head. Cassian furrowed his eyebrows. It's not that bad.
"BOYS GET ON THE FIELD! WE WILL NOT MAKE OUR APPEARANCE AFTER THEIRS!" Coach's bellowing could be heard from his office down the hall. The boys scrambled for their belongings and began heading out the door, towards the field.
Never let it be said that Cassian wasn't responsible, because really he was. He knew his idiot of a boyfriend would pull something and it would start a cycle of interactions that would piss off both teams. Frankly he didn't think it was a big deal. He led his team with an iron fist. They could handle it. He acted savagely when it came to beating the Ravens and it just so happened that Luca had a way of dancing around his passes, quite literally. It filled Cassian with tremendous rage. It was always a show to see them interact, and both teams changed their energy accordingly. There would certainly be injuries and an abnormal amount of fouls tonight. It was like a curse.
"If you ignore it it'll go away" Logan said, not caring that Cassian could hear. They were best friends and Cassian might be a hard-ass, but he knew how annoying games like these could be for everyone else so he let it slide.
Once on the field the team geared up and began warming up with a few laps. As they ran, the Raven's bus arrived. The energy changed instantly, not only were the Ravens their rivals, but the situation involving Cassian and Luca evoked a certain energy that could only be described as tense.
One by one, the other team stepped off the bus and headed toward their side of the field. Cassian promptly ignored them, which was sigh of relief for the Lions.
Upon finishing their warmup laps music started playing and the timer started. 30 minutes until the inevitable. The thundering bass from the speaker got every player hyped and while the Ravens began their laps, Cassian and his team stepped onto the field for some passes and shots on goal.
As much as the boys made a big deal out of Cassians behavior, he was their captain and he deserved respect, they also know he could beat any of them in a 1:1. So they didn't make their grievances too obvious on the field. They just hoped they could predict what Cassian might do tonight.
*2 hours earlier: 5pm*
"Are you ready?" Luca said softly over the phone. Cassian leaned back in his chair.
"I am, are you?" Cassian responded. Luca made a sound of agreement. A stupid question really, when was he not ready for a game?
Luca really only wanted to test him, to let him know that he had something up his sleeve. For whatever reason, Luca had been awfully quiet these past two days. They had spent time together, but it was mostly in a peaceful silence and it was driving Cassian insane. He didn't want to pry, but for fucks sake he needed to know why his boyfriend had suddenly become mute.
"Luca I haven't asked because it's your business, but I swear to God if you don't start using your voice more I'm going to lose my mind" Cassian tossed his head back, staring at the ceiling while waiting for a response.
"I didn't realize I've been so quiet lately" Luca said. Bullshit.
"Do you still plan on staying over during break?" Cassian asked.
"Yes" he nearly whispered.
Cassian rolled his eyes. What is wrong with him?
"I have to go, I'll see you tonight." Cassian said before promptly hanging up.
