I don’t remember anything. It’s like waking up expecting to see the sun, but seeing the white walls glow in a pure white glow; blinding you for hours. It’s strange, I can’t describe this feeling, it’s on the tip of my tongue...I can’t place it. I can’t move, I can’t talk, and I don’t know where I am. I’m trying so hard to place my wandering thoughts. It feels like my brain is in the clouds; floating non-stop, bouncing around, scattered. What is this. Why can’t Ifigure this out.
Chapter 1:
(Pj’s POV)
“Okay, I’ve got my coat, my keys, my camera, my phone….What am I missing?” I asked myself, as I tapped on my forehead.
“You’re coffee, dumb nut.” I heard Chris announce as he entered from the kitchen towards me.
“Oh thanks! Can you hurry up? I need to get to the headquarters straight away.” I said pulling my boots over my stocking feet.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m almost ready.” He said as he pulled his forest-green coat on over his shoulders. He finished tying his laces, checked for his phone, and stood up motioning for me to step outside of my flat.
“Ready? Aaaaaand we’re off!” I announced as we started walking down the snowy sidewalk.
It’s only November and it has already snowed, and its really icy! I warned myself of this, after I almost tripped and chucked my coffee all over myself and the pretty girl who just walked by. Nevermind, not so attractive…. Girls out there, it isn’t attractive to snarl at people and act like deranged dogs. I could hear Chris start to silently laugh as I brushed the thought of the girl away from my mind.
“What are you laughing at now?” I asked, slightly frustrated at almost embarrassing myself.
“You checking out that girl, hilarious.” He snorted.
“That was scary, I almost tripped because she snarled at me!” I retorted, trying to hide my blushing cheeks.
“Oh sureeee Peej, I saw all of that go down. When was it acceptable to lie to me?!” He asked in fake shock, setting one of his tan hands on his chest whilst gaping his mouth at me.
I laughed and punched his arm playfully. Stupid prick… We kept walking in a peaceful quiet, tone. I had about a half an hour until my meeting at YouTube headquarters with Dan and Phil, so we had time to pop by a starbucks. We turned a corner and came to a less elegant part of town, we had to cross through it to get to the other side of town.
“I feel bad for the people and families that have to live in a dump like this.” Chris said pointing to a dark, musty apartment complex.
“Yeah, I know. It sucks knowing that there are people out there who struggle-”
“Peej! Look!” Chris shouted, pointing towards the front of a grocery store where a small crowd of people stood surrounding something.
“What? What is it?” I asked, suddenly curious.
“Come look closer.” He said, pulling my sleeve forward.
As we got closer, I noticed that the crowd started to thin out, allowing me to see what everyone was so curious about. It was a girl, face down in the sidewalk. The back of her head showed that she must have been hit, because there was a small dent and blood dribbling down her hairline. Her hair is what caught your eye though, it was colored in beautiful pastel colors, pink faded in beautiful wavy curls.
“What happened?” I asked barely above a whisper.”
“I don’t know, sir, I just looked up from my shop after hearing a loud cracking sound, and just saw her fall over.” A little old woman said, self-consciously wrapping the sweater around her thin shoulders, up higher to her neck.
“Peej we have to do something.” Chris said in a quiet voice near my ear.
“Okay, help me lift her up so I don’t hurt her.” I said as I grabbed her thin arms.
Chris went for her legs, and helped steady her in my arms, as he went to go call a taxi.
I felt my breathing go slow as I stared at her. She had a small nose, pink lush lips, brown eyebrows trimmed neatly against her pale face. I couldn’t help myself, as I slowly lifted my finger to her eyelids and lifted them to see her dark brown ones.
“C’mon Peej, we have to get to the main road to hail a taxi!” Chris called for me.
I looked up and started running after him as he dashed ahead. I had the image of her almost-dead looking eyes haunting my brain as I ran forwards. Who is she? Why has she captured my eye more than that girl on the street? Why does she make me feel something deep inside?
Chris was shouting at the sidewalk, waving his hands frantically. I almost felt nervous as I watched him teeter on his toes, and jump around like a madman. Finally a cab rolled over and allowed Chris to throw open the door. He shouted at the cab to take us to the nearest hospital as I crawled inside and held the girl close to my body.
The cab man turned around and looked at us frantically, and I swear his eyes almost fell out of his sockets, and he turned around and pounded his foot against the pedal in a rush. I held her close to my body as I watched the buildings rush by. There wasn’t a lot of traffic surprisingly…. thank God!
We arrived at the hospital, and I swear Chris would have thrown the door off of it’s hinges as he opened it. We rushed inside, Chris shouting in a panic for someone to come help us. A group of nurses came running forward and grabbed the girl out of my arms. A receptionist lady walked up to us and started questioning us,
“Do you have any relation with this girl?”
“No, we found her outside of a grocery store unconscious. It looked like she had been hit in the head and slipped on ice.” Chris said for me.
“Okay, so you don’t know who her family is at all?”
“No, sorry.” I muttered out.
“If she has nobody, would mind sitting out here? If you’re not in a hurry.”
“No it’s fine, we’ll sit here.”
