"It's the first day of school, Grace get up" my mom says while trying to shake me awake.
"Yeah, yeah I know mom" I reply my voice still full of sleep.
"Your breakfast is in the kitchen, get ready quickly I have something to tell you" she says
"Mmkay" I mumble getting out of my make shift bed.
We don't have enough water to shower in the morning, so I slip on a light blue t-shirt that once was my dad's and pull on a pair of gray sweatpants that are way too big for me. Then walk down the hallway down to the kitchen stopping at the doorway. My mom and dad where talking.
"Nora you should really tell her" dad says.
"But Roger what if I don't get it? She'll be disappointed."
At that moment I walk into the room.
"Hey Mom. Hi Dad" I say pretending I didn't hear their previous conversation.
"Hey sweetie" my dad says smiling "I will leave you and your mom alone to talk" he gets up to leave, but not before giving my mom a kiss on the cheek, whispering something in her ear. I couldn't help but notice the nervous look that was on her face.
"So darling" she starts, and then heaves a huge sigh. "I found a job that I might like" I gasp,
"MOM!" she is quick to interrupt me.
"I sent my resume in this morning, but don't get your hopes up quite yet okay?" I smile at her
"Mom you finally found a job that you like the sound of after three years of searching for one, I'm proud of you mom!" she beams
"You always understand, Grace' she gets up "now eat your apple and finish getting ready for your first day of school."
I quickly eat the apple and walk down the hall to the bathroom.
It's not a very nice bathroom; it's rusty and all white except the taps and mirror- they're silver. It all works, and that's all that matters.
I look at myself in the mirror; I take a minute to take in my complexion. I have a slim face, really pale skin, big round green eyes, thin lips and a small nose.
I move my gaze down and look at my hair, it's a golden blonde that goes that goes all the way down to my lower back.
I'm about 5'6". I'm really skinny, almost too skinny. But I have built some muscle working on cars with my dad. But I also look really fat because of my clothes.
