It was the beginning of the second semester, junior year. Life in the semester before had seemed so simple, like I had it all figured out. Nothing could prepare me for what this semester was about to bring. The winter breeze blew through my dark hair, the leaves still on the ground of the courtyard dancing. With how cool the air was, it was obvious all the students were inside. Walking into the school, I was excited. After those two weeks out, I couldn't wait to see Joshua, since he had to work all through the holidays. I had really missed him, counting down the days until we could see each other again. Last time we spoke, it wasn't all that significant, and we barely spoke over break. So I was really excited to actually talk to him. I felt butterflies in my stomach as I get closer to the school. My hand reached for my locket, twirling it between my fingers. Students passed as I feel my pace become slower, looking at the school. I thought for a moment, wondering about everything we had been through. There was so much keeping us apart, yet we were still together, getting through it. Part of me thought that we would last forever. The thought warmed my heart, making me smile softly as I finally started walking to the door once again.
Behind me, I heard someone shouting my name. Turning around, I could see my beautiful best friend, with her long, golden blonde hair flowing freely as she sprinted to me. Smiling softly, I turned just in time for her to almost tackle me into a hug. I stumbled, before regaining my footing, and hugged her back. We never spent time together like we did before. We took every chance we had to talk, no matter if it was about our day or our boyfriends. Whatever the reason, we always found a way to talk about it.
Bethany squeezed me as she spoke, "I missed you so much!"
"I missed you too," I chuckled softly, returning the friendly embrace.
She pulled away, looking me up and down. Her ocean blue eyes shining with excitement and glee. I couldn't help but admire her beauty. Her perfect skin seemed glow, being perfectly tanned but not too much at the same time. She was perfect. Her eyes, her hair, her skin, everything. Part of me was jealous of her beauty. She looked like one of those models from the magazines.
She finally broke the silence, "How are you and Joshua doing? I know you guys weren't able to talk much during break."
I didn't know how to respond at first. Of course, I could've said great, but I didn't know what waited for me in the school. The thought made me worry for a few moments, before I give a nod, putting a decent smile on my face, "Yeah, we are great!"
"Well, I got to go, but text me later," she began to walk away, going inside the school.
I looked at the doors for a moment, hoping nothing had changed. I had not thought of the idea of him finally being tired of me. He could've for someone even better over break. No matter what, I had to go in there and face it.
I pulled the door open, which led into the gym. It's where all the high schoolers hung out before class. The dull, grey walls seemed to match the grey clouds outside. The smell of hair gel, coffee, and over sprayed perfume caused me to wrinkle up my nose. Looking in the corner, on the left side of the building, i saw him. In our usual spot. His dark curls hung over his forehead, messy as usual, his eyes lighting up as he chuckled at something our friend said. It made butterflies erupt in my stomach. I could feel a small smile grow on my face when seeing him. His eyes wandered, before they landed on me. His gaze made me nervous, before a he gave me a smile. The smile I could stare at all day. I took a breath, before I started weaving my way through the other highschool students, some on their phones, others laughing and joking with their friends.
