Mystic Falls, Virginia, 1001 A.D.

"It's Mikael, he has Nik!"  You cry to Elijah as you fight through your tears.  "What do we do?"

"What?!  How did he find him?!"  He comes rushing over to you.  "Y/N, what happened?"

"We were out in the field, watching the sunset.  Everything was fine until we started walking back.  I was hit on the head with something, and when I came to, Nik was gone.  All that was left there was this..."  You hand him a dagger you found on the ground with their father's crest carved into it.  "Elijah, we have to do something."

He takes it from you as he exhales a stressed breath.  "Alright, alright, I know where they would go when they would train.  I'm hoping they're there, but if they aren't, this is going to be a lot harder."  He takes the dagger and tucks it into his pocket.  "I do wish for you to stay here."

"Never!  I'm coming with you, please.  I can't sit here and not know what's going on."

He huffs and sighs heavily.  "Fine, but be vigilant."   He leads you out of the cabin you were all living in at the time.  Ester has been gone for two months now, none of you know how to deal with your vampirism yet, and Mikael's true colors have become even worse since he changed.  He's ruthless and unforgiving to everyone he comes across, even his old children.

You rush through the woods with Elijah, following behind him, trying not to snag your dress on passing branches.  You arrive just in time to see Mikael driving one of the white oak stakes into Nik's chest, causing you to scream out.  "No!"  You cry as you rush past Elijah and run to Nik, falling onto the ground with him as you try to catch him.

"What have you done?!"  Elijah screams at Mikael.

"I did what needed to be done," Mikael growls.

Elijah and Mikael go at it while you pull Nik into your lap.  "It's ok, it's ok," you whisper as you begin stroking his cheek.

Nik stares up at you, petrified as he cries out in pain.  "Take it out," he cries.  "Y/N, take it out..."

Closing your eyes, you quickly grasp the stake and pull it from his chest, it just missed his heart.  "Elijah!"  You toss it to him just before Mikael goes to attack him.

Elijah quickly holds the stake against Mikael's chest, stopping him in his tracks as the first inch pieces through his skin.  "Leave us, or you will give me no choice."  His voice is shaking, but stern.  He means what he's saying, and Mikael knows that.

"You would kill your own father to protect the bastard?"  He asks, sounding surprised.  "You're just as weak as he is!"

"I would kill you to protect my brother.  My brother.  Do you understand me?"

Looking back down at Nik, you grasp his hand and keep him close as he hides more and more into your arms.  "We're not going to let him hurt you," you whisper.  "Not again."  Moving his hair back away from his face.  "Look at me, Nik..."

He shakes in your embrace, his mind and heart racing a mile a minute.  He's completely lost inside himself.

"Niklaus, look at me."  You order, your voice strong enough to catch his attention.

His eyes quickly find yours as he looks at you, searching for any sort of peace he can find.  He sees your pain, your fear, your sadness, but he also sees your love, your compassion, and your inner peace that he's never known for himself.  Slowly, he begins to calm down as he finds peace in your embrace.  Silently, he takes you tightly into his arms and holds you close.  "You are my peace," he whispers, his voice shaking.
