Chapter 6

Artemis POV

We pulled up to the front of the house.

"Okay, girls, don't be too long, I'm just gonna wait out here. And Elise, make sure Lucia doesn't punch anyone or something." Aunt March said (we all called her Aunt March or March even though we weren't related).

We walked up to the front door. I stepped forward and knocked.

Damen's mom answered the door. "Hey there, Artemis, what can I do for you?"

"Not to be weird, but how do you know my name?" I asked.

"Oh, Damen talks about you all the time," she said with a smile.

WHAT?!

Lucia elbowed me and smiled devilishly.

"Well then...could you tell Damen that we need to talk to him?" Lucia said with a big grin. "It's about a school project." 

"Okay, just a second," she said leaning away from us. "DAMEN!" she yelled. "Some girls are here to see you for a school project!"

"What school project?" Damen yelled back.

"I don't know, just get down here!" his mom yelled.

We heard Damen's footsteps as he came down the stairs.

"Thank you, Mrs. Shaw," I said, walking into the house with the girls.

"Anytime, and please, call me Laura," she walked away after shutting the front door. I felt bad for lying to her, but this was definitely an emergency. Damen came up to the door. I couldn't help thinking about how good he looked- NO FOCUS ARTEMIS, THIS IS IMPORTANT!

"What do you guys want?" Damen said, still holding his PS5 controller.

"We've gotta talk to you. It's serious. Now shh." said Lucia, turning to me.

"Is there anywhere more private that we can talk? Somewhere where she can't hear?" I asked, nodding my head towards his mom.

"Well, I guess we can talk in the basement," Damen said, gesturing towards a door that I'm guessing led to the basement. He opened the door and took us down there.

"Make yourselves at home," he said.

They all sat down on beanbag chairs and I sat on a couch next to Damen.

"What was so important that you had to interrupt me?" Damen said, clearly annoyed.

"Well, so we were all at Lucia's and we were talking and...um...turns out... soweallkindahavepowersandwewerewonderingifyoudidtoo?" Artemis said.

"What? Slow down," Damen said.

"Gosh you're slow. What Artie is trying to say is that when we were exposed to that radiation thingy, we got powers, like superpowers, and since you were with us, we were wondering if you did too?" Lucia asked.

"Artie?" Damen said.

"Artemis, Artie, it's called a nickname, stupid. Duh." Lucia said.

"We just told you we are basically superheroes and all you respond with is 'Artie?' That's bogus man." Scarlett replied.

"Just let him talk," Elise said, waiting for Damen to speak. "Well? Are you gonna talk?"

"Well, to be honest, I may or may not have gone to a cemetery and-" Damen got cut off.

"Why in the world were you at a freaking cemetery?" Scarlett asked.

"Visiting my dad's grave," Damen said.
