In which Y/n L/n met Kento Nanami 10 years ago

Y/n L/n was 17 at the time. They were coming back from the library from a gruesome study session. It was about 6 PM by the time they were finished. They were in a hurry to get home by the sounds of their stomach grumbling.
"I only had a cup of coffee today..." Y/n thought with a sigh.

They decided to take a shortcut in order to get home quicker. That would be both the worst and best decision of Y/n's life. As they rounded the corner, they came to a dead end. Y/n sighed, hoping they weren't lost. They turned around but were met with a group of intimidating individuals.
"Well shit." Y/n thought to themselves.
"What's a pretty thing like you doing alone?" The, presumably, leader asked walking toward Y/n.
"I'm just trying to get home, I'm not looking for trouble." Y/n stated, putting their hands up.

"Neither are we so just hand over everything you've got, yeah?" The leader said.
"Look man, I don't know what the hell it is you're thinking but you're mad funny if you think I actually have money. I'm broke." Y/n deadpanned.
"That's what they all say," The leader grumbled.
"Just hand everything over and no one gets hurt." He said.
"Alright fine." Y/n sighed.

They placed their backpack on the floor and held their hands up again.
"Is that all?" The leader asked.
"Pretty much, yeah. I mean, I did tell you I was broke, didn't I?" Y/n said.
"You're getting on my goddamn nerves, you know that?" The leader scowled.
"Sorry, just sayin." Y/n said, avoiding eye contact.

One of the men in the group walked up and opened the backpack.
"Nothing but papers and books in here." He said.
The leader groaned.
"Search them." He said.
"What-" Y/n squeaked.
"Woah, woah, woah, back off!" They said, brows furrowed.
One of the men held their arms and another held their legs. Another man came up and began searching Y/n's pockets and anything else he thought of. Y/n hit the guy behind them with their head and while the guy holding their legs was distracted, they freed one of their legs and kicked him in the face, proceeding to kick the guy searching them in the shins and then their face.

"That was easier than I thought it'd be." They mumbled, quickly grabbing a hold of their backpack and backing up seeing as to how people were blocking their exit.
"That was the wrong fucking move." The leader growled, moving closer.
"Look dude, I really don't want to fight-"
"Too fucking bad you already did." The leader grumbled.
"That was self defense!"
"I don't give a shit!" He yelled, throwing a punch which Y/n just narrowly missed.
The leader glared at them and called for the other guys to help him. A few of them ran up and held Y/n still, prompting the leader to strike Y/n's cheek, it would surely leave a bruise.

The leader proceeded to strike Y/n's stomach, causing them to groan in pain.
"Too bad we could have done this the easy way." The leader feigned disappointment.
"Pleas-" Y/n was cut off by a hit to their cheek once again, their face now bruising and dripping a bit of blood.
"Talk again and it won't end well." The leader glared.
But before he could do anything more, he felt someone grab his wrist.

Nearby, there was a man by the name of Kento Nanami, 17 as well. He strolled by and was fortunate and unfortunate enough to hear some commotion coming from an alleyway.
"I really shouldn't check it out, it's not my business." He told himself.
Despite what he told himself, he found it hard to follow through with it. So here he was now, grabbing some irrelevant dude's wrist and stopping him from hurting someone.

"What are you doing you idiot?!" Nanami scolded himself.
"Who the hell are you?!" The leader yelled.
"No one," Nanami stated and proceeded to hold the leader back.
"Let them go and I won't hurt him." He said, looking at the others.
The other men stared at one another, not sure what to do but eventually, they let go of Y/n who promptly moved away from them as best as they could. They sat far away from the group before they eventually went unconscious.

Once Nanami was finished, he took it upon himself to take Y/n to a hospital. He, despite telling himself not to, stayed until Y/n woke up.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" He asked.
"I'm...good, I'm good. Thank you for helping me." Y/n said, giving the man a small smile.
Nanami stared at them before speaking.
"It's no problem, well, I'll get going now." He said.
"Wait!"

Nanami turned around and looked at Y/n.
"Is there anything I can do to...repay you?" They asked.
"No, it's fine. Don't worry about it, just be careful next time I guess." Nanami said.
"No I can't um....I can give you my number and if there's ever anything you need within reason, I can help." Y/n said.
Nanami thought for a moment. Why not? It wouldn't hurt and so, they exchanged numbers, Y/n memorizing Nanami's due to having left their phone back at home.

That night, Y/n was discharged from the hospital and they went home. They quickly looked for their phone, eventually finding the black-cased device with 8% battery left.

Unfortunately, their phone wouldn't charge. It looked like they'd need a new one.
