CH.1| THE GIFT
He had his hands clamped up to his head, he lost. He lost his wand, and he was going to die. All he could think was IWANTYOUGONEIWANTYOUGONEIWANTYOUGONE! By some miracle, the man before him exploded; he tried to say something but exploded in a column of fire.
Elijah jerked awake from the terrible nightmare he just had. His room was dimly lit from the hallway light, due to him having to keep his door open so his foster parents can look in on him. He looked at his alarm clock and it read: 3:35 AM. His room was fairly small. No television. Just a bunk bed, one other small bed, a small closet with little to no clothes, and a small desk for "school."
His heartbeat was racing. He has had this dream every night for the past week now and has somehow managed to wake up every morning at the same time.
He gets up and heads to the bathroom. The bathroom is mostly white, with the sink having a wooden cabinet underneath. The bathroom is small and can barely fit one person, much less two. He goes to the sink and turns on the water to splash his face with it. It feels cold and energizing as he studies himself in the mirror. He was a little small for his age, he wore grey sweatpants and no shirt. He wasn't fat, but he wasn't exactly muscular, and had a scar going from above the left side of his chest all the way to the top of his sternum. He had a light tan and had a full head of brown hair that was cut short with blue eyes that seemed to have a little bit of gold patches throughout.
Elijah hated it here and had been here for six years. His parents had died in a car crash when he was just a baby. Carter and Martha, his foster parents, were cheap and abusive. They dealt drugs on the down low and Elijah would accidentally sit or step on their needles, which was not pleasant. The parents would burn him with a blunt for every "disrespectful" comment or action he said or did. He was the oldest of two other foster siblings and would have to make sure they stayed in line. They did not get a lot to eat and had to do all the chores, including cooking and grocery shopping around the house. The house itself was small and barely fit 5 people. It smelled like old marijuana and cigarettes.
He went back to his room that he shared with his other siblings and finally went to sleep peacefully for the rest of the night. Little did he know of the day he was about to have.
Elijah woke up and got dressed in a plain blue shirt and dark grey cargo shorts. He then woke up his other siblings. Arianna was seven years old and was just the most adorable little girl, her parents had just thrown her to the street because they did not want her. She was African American and was energetic and outspoken, and unfortunately, because of it, she got punished a lot. She had the darkest eyes that Elijah has ever seen. Her hair was black, frizzy, and difficult to maintain. But with Elijah's help, they managed to get the hair under control. Ethan was simply different. He was Asian and super introverted. Of course, our parents were redneck racists and basically just beat on him mentally. He is six years old and is at an average height for his age. He had silky black hair and light chocolate-colored eyes.
Elijah got them dressed and ready for school. As he was walking the two kids out the front door for the bus, Carter sat there staring at him. His dark brown eyes piercing through Elijah's soul, even through the door frame. Elijah walked back up into the house and was met with Carter's alcoholic breath that was so strong, that he believed Carter was still drunk from last night, and a puff of cigarette smoke.
"I told you to keep it down, while we are trying to sleep!" Carter exclaimed, slurring his words as he went walking towards Elijah.
"I am sorry, I will try to keep it down next time," apologized Elijah, trying to avoid confrontation before he went to school. Of course, it was not going his way. Carter thought he heard sarcasm and slammed Elijah's head in the wall.
