CH.2| THE JOURNEY
Miami was not that far. Elijah lived in a smaller town called Williston, FL. For the next week, Elijah was sleeping in the woods, stealing food, and walking all the way to Miami, FL. He was anxious, he had a few close calls with death. Most of them having tripped a ton, but there were a couple of wolves that he had crossed paths with, and they were not exactly kind.
He has finally made it to Miami, but what now. He doesn't know where to go or where he is supposed to even go. His parents had said the docks, but he doesn't know which one to go to, there must be a ton in Miami. He may be looking for answers, but he was tired and hungry. However, he only had a couple of cents in his pocket and could not afford to buy any food.
He spent hours outside a McDonald's begging for money, just to only get enough for just a McDouble and small water. His stomach was rumbling like a thunderstorm. He scarfed down his burger and drink as if he never even tasted any of it. He was nowhere near full, but that is all he could get. He walked the streets of Miami, looking for somewhere to crash.
He could hear gunshots throughout the streets, police cars, ambulance, and everything else that could scare an 11-year-old boy. He was walking around, past a store where someone was robbing the place and he looked, that was his one mistake. They both were white, he believed, they had traditional burglar clothes on, the complete black suit with a black mask. The robbers took one look at him and raised their guns.
"Hey, kid!" they yelled at him. They shot. But not before Elijah raised his hands in defense. The gold glow in his hands was back, and the bullets that were shot at him looked like they were surrounded by golden energy, that he seemed to be controlling. He ran and ran until he lost them.
Eventually, Elijah found a back-alley way, he couldn't see it very well, but he sat behind a dumpster. And before he knew it, he was fast asleep.
It seemed like seconds later, but the sun started peaking through the alleyways and onto his face. He got up, very groggily, and stretched while his back and neck were searing in pain from sleeping on a brick wall. The alleyway was like any other. Between two buildings, trash all over the place, with a dumpster against one of the walls. He left the place behind and started walking to the docs, towards the ocean.
He just wanted to know where to go. He did not know his way around the town at all. He was desperate, hungry, lonely, confused, and hurt. All he could think about was having some kind of tracker to find out where he was supposed to be going.
TAKEMETHERETAKEMETHERETAKEMETHERE. Then suddenly, this golden trail appeared out of nowhere, it looked like it was leading somewhere. Did he want to follow it, he did not know what it was or where it would lead. Did he really want answers? All this hand glowing and "magic" was getting out of hand and it was creepy because he did not know what was going on.
Elijah decided that he was going to follow it anyway. He started walking. He went through the streets of Miami. It seemed as if he were the only one that could see it. No one glanced at it, they just seemed to walk through it and went on their normal regular day. He just kept walking, following the trail, seeing where he had to go. It seemed to go on forever.
Elijah was getting closer to the docs; the end of the trail seemed to be only a mile left. The closer he got, the weirder he felt. The air somehow got thicker the closer he got. He could feel the air vibrating with power. He did not know what was going on, but other people were just walking past the area, not getting close. It seemed as if he was walking in slow motion. But eventually, he was able to get past this, this "boundary". The world transformed around him.
The air seemed thicker and what seemed like an empty bay with trash everywhere, including the ocean, it all changed. Straight in front of Elijah was a doc, the ocean was a beautiful blue and there were giant sailboats docked all over the place. There were people crawling everywhere and objects randomly flying through the air. It was as if these people were in a rush to get many tasks done for something.
Everything just seemed brighter, and it felt like the world was vibrating around him. He could not believe his eyes. Magic was real. He did not know if this was good or bad. It seems like a scary idea that there were others with capabilities beyond what he could imagine. It was time to talk to someone and ask about Bermuda.
Elijah walked up to someone and tapped them on the should. The woman turned around he got a good look at her. She was African American. She had brown eyes, they looked at you as if she were a caring mother that would take anyone under her wing. Her hair was black and was pulled back into a ponytail. She looked like she was in her early 30's and she wore a purple tank top and black sweatpants.
"Hey, little one," she said. "What are you doing here?"
"I need help," answered Elijah, suddenly all the exhaustion and emotion have caught up to him, and just fainted.
Elijah started opening his eyes and when he did, he was on a bed. It seemed like he was in some sort of hospital. Everything was white, but there were no machines. He could see out the window, the view was of the doc, but it was now dark outside, and he could barely see anything outside, but it seemed everyone had decided to go inside. He decided to try and leave, and he went out the room door. The hallway was dark, barely lit by the light that seemed to come from downstairs. There were a couple of tables on the side with either pictures or flowers on them.
He decided to go down the stairs. They went down in a spiral and Elijah almost became dizzy. They were carpet with metal rails with an oak wood finish top. He finally got to the bottom. It was full of a few adults, talking amongst themselves. The black lady saw me first and walked over to me.
"Are you alright, hun?" she asked.
"I think I will be alright," Elijah answered. "Who are you?"
"I am Danielle Gooding," she said. "Who are you?
"I am Elijah Amory," he said. "What is this place?"
"How do you not know?" she said. "You got through the barrier; you must be a sorcerer."
"Well, I got some sort of dream, a message from my parents telling me to go to the Bermuda Triangle for some sort of magic school," he said.
"Your parents are not alive?" she asked choking a little.
"No, I lived in a foster home, until I ran away and got the message," he replied.
"Oh honey!" she exclaimed. "I am so sorry!"
They were interrupted by a little girl that was around his age and a little smaller than him. She came running down the stairs.
"Mommy! I just had a bad dream!" she exclaimed. She ran into Danielle's arms.
"It is okay sweetie," Danielle said and kissed the little girl's head. "You want to introduce yourself to Elijah?"
"Hi, Elijah!" she exclaimed. "I am Sarah!" She seemed nice. She had dark chocolate eyes, a thin to thick frame, and her hair was really curly with blonde highlights. She was wearing a blue robe with pajamas underneath. They were regular-looking pajamas, a pink shirt, and white pajama pants.
"Hi, Sarah," Elijah said as formally as he could.
"Here, let me take you guys back to bed and we can continue this conversation in the morning," Danielle said. She took them back upstairs and into their respective rooms.
Even though he feinted earlier, Elijah could not fight the sleep that was overcoming his body. The dreams decided to come back tonight, and they turned out to be frightening as usual.
There Elijah was, beaten, bruised, and burned. A child was on the floor and there was a couple of flames of fire around them. There is something he must do, there was a man standing there with triumph written on his face. He seemed psychotic with a creepy grin coming across his face. He was bald, he had green eyes, but that was all he could see was his face, he was wearing a robe with the hood down. He held up his hands as if to strike and then...
