To say that the rest of the night was awkward would be an understatement.

After that little comment, i couldn't look at Luke without bringing a pink flush to my cheeks. So the rest of the day was spent sneaking quick glances and tiptoeing around.

Luke showed me where i would be sleeping, and thank god it wasn't with him. I don't think i could stand being that close to him, without being even closer. When i woke the next morning i took a proper look around. It was a pretty enough room anyway, light yellow walls, with lavender furnishings. This is an amazing house, and its kind of hard to wrap my head around the fact that Luke lives here now. Then I realized, what if I technically live here now...

Am i free to leave?

Maybe I don't want to, things are shit back home anyway. Mum found Dads stash of drugs, and she wasn't angry. She showed him her stash, and then they probably smoked together. Big brother left for law college, and little bro is now the only normalish one in our family. Apart from Musty i guess, our grey kitten. Who I'd found in a dumpster with a bleeding leg,  and who is my responsibility. Coming to the realization that she now has no one to care for her, i run into the kitchen and frantically grab at Luke. "Luke! We need to go and get Musty... please she's all alone,  no one at home will feed her!"

"Who's Musty?"

"My kitten! She's a rescue, please, let me go get her."

"Its an hour drive Sam." He sighs, looking at my pouted lips and attempt at puppy dog eyes. "Fine. This better be a good cat. House trained?" I hesitate.

"Maybe." I grab his wrist - I don't want to give him the wrong idea by grabbing his hand - and pull him to the door. He sighs once more, pulling out his keys from his pocket.

"We just entered the city, we should be there in like 10 minutes."

"Yay!" I look at the time, which is 2:45. "What day is it?"

"Friday" Perfect, Friday means parents work late and Ben is at drama till 5.30. I groan suddenly, and Luke's head snaps in my direction.

"What?"

"This is such a good way to spend a Friday. "

"Offensive." Luke mocks feeling hurt, placing one hand on his heart.

"It was meant to be." There is a long silence after that, and i almost felt bad. Almost. "Yay! We're here."

The pick up would be nice and easy, I would go inside and Luke would decide not to, because he wants to 'look after the car'. I grab the blue and white carry cage that we used to use for our old cat, and set a blanket down that no one ever uses in it to make it at least a little bit more comfortable. Then i had to hunt for Musty, which wouldn't be hard. I've come to know all her hiding places, the most popular one being under the couch. Then grab some cat food, and lure her into the box. Load her into the car, and then endure the long drive back. But I guess it wasn't ever going to be that simple.

"Luke, why are you crying?" He shakes his head, waving me off but he knows that i wont drop it. "No! Why are you crying?"

"Its no big deal Sam. I'm just being an idiot. Don't worry about it." His voice comes out shaky, and he throws his head back in frustration.

"I cant just not worry about it. Now tell me why you are crying. I wont drop the subject till you do." He sighs, then becomes silent for a few moments.

"Remember when you had that barbecue, and you invited my whole family, and the boys?" I nodded, i remember that day, and its the one that haunts me the most. It was the day Luke finally kissed me. We had been dating for a month before that, and i was impatiently waiting for him to make the first move.

"What about it?"

"Remember what my parents did that day?" Now remembering that part of the day, i chuckle softly to myself. They had embarrassed him by announcing to all of the guests, including his best mates that he still had a stuffed animal to sleep with. He was 15. "I guess it just brought back memories." The fact that Luke's parents were gone hadn't really sunk into me yet, and Luke saying made me realize that id never hear their teasing tone or kind words again. Before i knew it, there were fat tears making their way down my face and Luke was pulling me into his embrace. It was warm, and i felt myself pushing further into his touch. I don't know how long we had sat there, but it seemed like forever.

"Luke?" He nods slightly, probably because if he talked his voice would crack. "Are you still in contact with the other boys?"

"No. I guess i was too busy thinking about other things after the crash."

"They will be worried sick Luke! Why don't we go visit them while we are here?" He shakes his head. And then shakes it harder. "Why not?!"

"They will be angry at me. They wont want to see me."

"Bullshit! They will be so happy to see you."

"Did you talk to them after I left?"

"No, they tried to call me a few times though. Mostly Ashton."

"So you cant possibly know that they wont be angry at me."

"Shut up and drive to Ashtons house."

"No."

"YES." I challenge him, holding my gaze until he backs down and accepts defeat.

"Fine."

"Yay! I'll text the boys."

"Honey im home!" I call as i walk through the door to Ashtons living room.

"Sam? Is that you? Oh my god you had me fucking worried out of my mind. Hows my best friend?" Ashton Irwin is my best friend, and im not ashamed to say it. I guess i accidentally ignored him after what happened with Luke. He is also Lukes good friend, which is how me and Luke met. At first i thought Ashton and Luke were gay and had a secret relationship but then Luke surprised me by asking me out. My and Ashton have been friends since primary school, and he met Luke when he joined their band to play the drums. Ashton pulls me into a hug, and when he looks over my shoulder i feel him stiffen.

"Hi mate..." I hear a nervous Luke say.
