The lone butterfly that came to meet me one day

The soft, white and slightly sweet rice melted in my mouth as I gazed past the walls of the butterfly mansion. We demon slayers found this place an oasis from the wide spanning battlefield outside.

"I could die at any moment," I found myself murmuring, mindlessly munching on my onigiri. It was true, I was always in danger.

"That is our fate," came a voice from behind me which caused me to turn swiftly. The presence I hadn't sensed approached with such grace and beauty I couldn't remove my eyes from it, the lone butterfly that had survived the punishing winter.

Her alluring yet woeful purple pearls stared back at me and a mellow smile spread over her lips.

"Kocho... sama?" the familiar words dropped from my mouth. Realising I had been gawking at her, like a child, I swivelled away from her wise, watching eyes to hide the rising red in my cheeks, to my unfinished onigiri.

"Hello, [Y/N]-san," she answered, swooping down to sit beside me like a bird diving for its prey. Her aura was so palpable that it was difficult to breathe, smothered by heavy though exhaustingly nectarous honey-flavoured atmosphere, "How are your wounds?"

"Better, thanks to your medicine," the small talk made for a temporary escape from her invisible prison. Her subdued breathing tickled my ear as she peered down at my hands. The temptation to take her in with my eyes tugged at me inside and my eyes slid towards her fair face.

How many people had she seen killed by those empty eyes? The lavender deserts that spanned out in those orbs stored and drowned secrets that she dare not tell to another soul.

"That sounds well," the butterfly replied, facing me with her wings close to her body in a tame manner. She seemed so close, yet so distant.
"Is something wrong?" She questioned, batting her eyes back at me.

"Nothing," I replied, searching for some sort of truth in those lilac plains.
"I see," she remarked before turning to admire the garden in front of us. Her black hair faded into a perfect purple at the ends, falling around her charming face, "I should check on their progress at Total Concentration Breathing : Constant."

Gulping as I watched her standing up, my gaze returning to her hand. Would it be too much to tell her to stay? To ask her to stay by my side?

"Shinobu-," My hand reached out to hers as she stepped forward, and my fingers closed around her palm, "Can you..."

Her eyes widened and she paused, gazing into me with those intoxicating wisteria coloured orbs, "Yes?"

"Can you stay with me for a little longer?" The onigiri rice dropped to the floor, and the wind whistled between us as if it was swooning.

"..." Those lips parted, but the voice never came out. Delicately, she perched beside me without losing composure.

A silence permeated the air, broken only by the rubbing wings of a cricket. The butterfly awaited for a sentence to respond to. The flowers had only just started blossoming.
