They were in shock. Them being Toko Fukawa, Aoi Asahina, Yasuhiro Hagakure, Byakuya Togami, and of course, Kyoko Kirigiri. The one who had brought them the most hope was actually the one wanting to bring them despair. They had come to the conclusion that Junko Enoshima was the mastermind, and that the one who had died in front of them was her twin sister, Mukuro Ikusaba. They were right about Mukuro, but Junko was not the mastermind. She had been killed before the killing game, at the hands of her best friend, the mastermind...
Makoto Naegi...
Kyoko Kirigiri had no words.
She felt despair. The one who convinced her to keep going forward, had betrayed her. He had filled her with so much hope, only to take that all away. The only thing she could mutter was,
"Why..."
Makoto paused his monologue.
"Why? You really want to know why?"
She paused. She wanted to know the truth, but he made it sound like it wouldn't be all sunshine and rainbows. But then, she made up her mind.
"Tell us why, Makoto. Tell me why I was betrayed."
He looked surprised. The detective sounded so aggressive. She was never like this, even before the killing game.
"Alright then. You better prepare the tissues."
And so, he began with his tragic backstory.
"My whole life, I was so despair filled. Nothing good ever happened to me. I honestly can't remember the last time I was genuinely happy. So, I just wanted everyone to feel what I felt. I wanted revenge."
Kyoko couldn't believe what she was hearing. Revenge? Why would he want that? How bad was his past to drive him to do all this?
"Tell me everything. Your entire life, tell me."
He had hoped she wouldn't ask that, but he expected it. He sighed.
"Alrighttt... So, basically, I was an accidental pregnancy. My parents wanted an abortion, but my grandparents were pro-life. So they forced my mother to have me, and raise me. This led to my parents despising me. Everything was fine, until I turned 8. On my 8th birthday, they locked me in my room and attacked me. My sister was completely unaware. By the time they were done, I was bleeding and sobbing on the floor, unable to move. This was the beginning of years of abuse. School wasn't any better. Nobody was a huge fan of me. I would always go home in tears, with my face covered in bruises. I didn't even have to make up any excuses, because nobody cared enough to ask me what had happened. This lasted all the way until I got accepted into Hope's Peak. They had a dorm system, so I could finally get away from my parents! I thought I could finally be happy, but what happened next was my breaking point..."
Kyoko couldn't believe what she was hearing. This was just a summary of his life?! How bad was it? She wanted him to elaborate on his cliffhanger.
"What happened next?"
He took a deep breath. This part was hard to talk about. It's what led him and the despair sisters to make the killing game.
"Hope's Peak wasn't any better. I walked into that academy, filled with hope that everything would be better!.. But that was a mistake... Since I was the only one without a talent, I was an outcast among you guys. You all felt embarrassed to be around me, and made sure I knew it. The bullying had reached it's worst. The only people who liked me were the ones who understood me, and my despair. Mukuro Ikusaba, and Junko Enoshima."
Once again, they were all in shock. First of all, they bullied Makoto?! Secondly, Junko was in on the killing game. They were right. But Junko had been killed in secret. This was obvious, considering Mukuro was definitely the one killed in the gym.
"Junko and Mukuro grew up in despair as well. They were both homeless growing up, and Junko had fallen in love with the despair she felt. She made up a plan to make the entire world feel this wonderful feeling, and got Mukuro on board. When they discovered I was so stranger to despair, they started working to getting me on the team. At first I wasn't interested in their original plan, which was to make the most hopeful school in the world to fall into despair. I decided to elaborate on that. I wanted to put our classmates into a killing game, along with the original plan. Junko was all for it. She said that I could be the one running the show, since it was my amazing, despairful idea. And so, we spent the next 2 years planning this killing game. Junko also found some info that would help us a lot. Hope's Peak had this thing for untalented students, called the Reserve Course. I won't go into too much detail, since I'm not that educated on it, but basically, you could pay tons of money so you could be considered for Hope's Peak. But, what they didn't know was that their parents money was going to a project that was experimenting on the Reserve Course students. Junko leaked this info, and riots broke out. So, that was the start of the Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event In Human History, or just The Tragedy for short. You guys locked yourselves inside Hope's Peak, which we used to our advantage. We wiped your memories, and started the killing game. And that sums up just about everything. Any questions?"
They were all silent. They had no words.
"Nothing? Okay then! Well, since you guys already voted, I guess it's time for the punishment!"
The... punishment..? Kyoko knew they had voted wrong. They were going to be executed.
"Oops! You guys voted wrong! Butttt... Honestly, I've always wanted to feel the despair of dying. So, I'm gonna go against my own rules! Besides, I've already planned an amazing execution for myself!"
Execution for himself..? Kyoko didn't want that.
"Well then, let's give it everything we've got."
He put his hand over the red punishment button. She didn't want this. She wanted to stop him, but she couldn't move. Why couldn't she move?!
"It's... PUNISHMENT TIIIME!"
And so, his execution began. He went through every past execution, and ended by being crushed on his own fake execution. And with that, he was gone. Dead. Despair for the 77th class was over. The 5 of them had made it. But, was this really the end?..
