"Hello, Lucy! How was it? Did you lose the twins again?" Mom walks over by the white leather couch that I lay sprawled acrossed. I roll my eyes at the fact that my mom asked such a question. Actually the first thing she said as she walked through the door. Can't you just see how much she believes in me? No. No you can not, because it does not exist.

I set my phone onto the coffee table and look up. "It's nice to see you too mom. And to answer your question, no. They are upstairs. Seth is playing video games and Cheyenne's on her laptop talking to Elly (Her best friend)." Mom let out a sigh as she took a seat next to me. "How'd you do it?" I straighten my posture. "Do what?" Mom looks at me giving me the don't think I'm stupid look.

Okay. So I may have bribed them to shut up and go upstairs and be quiet, just till mom got home, for twenty dollars each, but that's something we can keep to ourselves. Right? I fall back onto the couch. "If you think I did something to keep them quiet, you're wrong. I. Uh - I did not bribe them with twenty dollars each to be quiet if that's what your thinking. Haha! Psh..." My mom gets up from the couch and throws her arms over her chest. "Really Luc? You can't take care of them without bribing them? Maybe I should just call a babysitter who is available 24/7." Mom walks away into the kitchen. I keep quiet, hoping that she will get a full time babysitter or something. Because if I learned anything in the last four years of babysitting, it's that Cheyenne and Seth are untrainable. They will not do anything without money getting involved. Or food. Food is always good to bribe with. Especially with Seth.

I get up and walk over to my mom who is counting the money I had left from the $150 she gave me this morning. She looks over at me. "60 dollars left. What did you spend the other 90 dollars on?" I let out a frustrated sigh as I rummaged through the fridge. "I gave each of them twenty, And I bought Chinese take out for dinner which was twenty." After pulling out an orange from the fridge, I walk over to the garbage hoping my mom doesn't notice I left out thirty dollars worth of something. But I was a fool for thinking it would slide. My mother was an accountent! Duh me! "And the other thirty?" My mom speaks in a stern voice. After pealing the orange, I peal the pieces apart and set them in a bowl. I took a deep breath preparing for the breakout that was going to happen at any moment.

"IleftthritydollarshereforthemwhenIwentdownothebeach." I said in one breath. My mom looked at me with an eyebrow raised. "Say it again? Slower." I let out a nervous laugh as I tossed one of the oranges into my mouth. "I said, I. Left. Thirty. Dollars. Here. For. Them. When. I... went down, to the beach?" I said extremly slow. Actually, it was more like a question than a response.

My mom tilted her head. "Lucy Lee Clare!" I scrunched my nose at the sound of my last name. And whenever she said my full name, I knew I was in some deep trouble. Maybe even a year worth of groundings? Who knows. It's the famous Joice Ray Clare after all.

"So let me get this straight. You can't leave your house for two days, you can't have, nor use, any money from your parents, And you are grounded when ever they feel like displining you? For five months?" One of my best friends, Bailey's voice cracks through the phone. "Yup. Pretty much! Welcome to the life of Lucy Lee Clare. The girl who can't do anything without her parents getting on her ass about it. And not to mention, all of the things my dad wrote on the note, haven't even been added in yet!" A small laugh beams through the other end of the line. "But, it's senior year for crying out loud! That's not fair! I'd hate to be in your shoes right now Lucy. But it's not as bad as my punishments. And to sum it all up, my sibilings turn around and laugh in my face about it when my parents are looking the other way." Bailey has two younger sibilings. Carl, who is twelve, and Lily who is eight. But she also has an older sister, and step brother. Cady, who is eighteen, and Aiden who is nineteen. Big family if I say so myself. But Bailey is like my sister, so add another child in. But the amount doesn't matter. I can tell her anything without having to worry about her going behind my back with it and using it to her advantage somehow.

After Bailey and I bid our goodbyes, we hung up. I walk out of my bedroom and down the hall heading for the light brown carpeted staircase. I jump from the third stair from the bottom, onto the wooden floor landing with a thud. I walk into the kitchen where I spot my mom hovered over the stove. "Where's dad?" I question as I take a seat at the kitchen table. My mom glances back at me. "He's in his work room." I slowly stand to my feet. "Okay, Thanks. I'm just gonna...go say hi." I slowly start to walk backwards out of the kitchen, when my mom spins around and wipes her hand on her apron. She crosses her arms over her chest. "Don't think you are going to convince your father into ungrounding you. Your dad is naive in any situation. But me? No. So don't even try Lucy." My mom turns back around and continues to cook.

Yeah. And dad said the same thing about you.

I roll my eyes, knowing that my mom can't see me. "Pft. Where did you get such a crazy idea?" My mom doesn't turn around as she speaks. "You have done it before Luc. And you won't hesitate to try and do it again. Besides. Your father is swamped with work. Leave him be until he comes out for dinner." I sigh as a I walk out of the kitchen, making sure to stomp my feet like a total four year old.

A couple minutes later, I walk back into the kitchen. My beach towl hung over my sholder. I rest my hand on the cold metal handle of the sliding glass back door. "Where do you think you're going?" I turn around and see my mom with her arms crossed staring me dead in the eyes. "Um. Out." I mock the look on her face as I cross my arms. "Out where?" She responded. "Um. Outside. Meaning, not right here, outside, like, out of this house?" I gesture to the backdoor. My mom rolls her eyes. "You are not going anywhere. You're grounded young lady. Remember? Dinner will be ready in twenty minutes anyways."
This time, I'm the one rolling my eyes. "Seriously? I'm just going out for a swim." My mom shakes her head. "You do not have permission Lucy. Go upstairs, and get out of your bathing suit. That's an order." I groan in annoyance. "Seriously? I'm not a little kid anymore mom. Stop treating me like one. I know I'm grounded. But I just need to take a swim. You already know it's the only thing that relaxes me." I argue with my mom. "Lucy. Seriously. Upstairs. Now. I will stop treating you like a baby once you start acting like your own age. Which means having responsibility of your younger sibilings." I groan. Without another word, I slide the door open.

A sly smirk appears on my face. I press my back to the edge of the door. "Lucy. What are you doing? Don't you dare. Close that door right now," As she realizes I don't follow her order, she starts again. "Lucy! Close the door. Now! Don't you--" She stops in the middle of her sentence as she watches me dart out of the door onto the patio, down the stairs, and down the sandy beach heading for the water.

All I needed right now, was peace and quiet. Only the sound of the waves could calm my nerves at the moment. And I knew the beach is where I had to be at the moment.

Atleast until some of my problems go away. But then again, I would be here forever if I waited until they all just dissapeared. It wouldn't be that bad though. Would it? No. It couldn't. I wouldn't let it be a bad idea. I would refuse to have anyone stop me from coming here. Ever. This was, just my place to be.

And the sound of the waves made it that much better.
