To say that people were surprised to see me is an understatement. I have never done online school before. I much preferred the in-person experience. I also never missed a day of school. Seriously. The last time I did was four years ago, in third grade when I was sick. Since then, I stuck it out and went even when I felt terrible.

I log on and surprisingly, many of my friends are there.

"Hi," I say shyly.

My best friend, Briella, yells at me, understandable, we tell each other everything.

"Lia! Where are you? You aren't in your house. I've been to your house, I know what it looks like! So where are you right now?" She talks so fast it's hard for many other people to understand her.

"Relax, Bri. I'm at my house. I'm fine." I tell her. I'm going to wait for class to be over before I tell her the details.

"That is so not your house but, ok." He glares at me. "But we are FaceTiming when this is over."

I nod and my teacher logs on to start class.

"Lia! You're here!" He exclaims. Mr. Edgar is my favorite teacher. He is the cool teacher, but we get things done. And, not to brag, but I have a feeling that I'm among one of his favorite students.

When class is done, we have five hours before math. I don't know why our classes aren't back to back but it's just the way it is.

My thoughts are cut off by my phone ringing.

I swipe to answer and Bri's face appears on the screen.

"Where are you?" She asks. She never lets things like this go.

"I'm home," I tell her.

"Show me."

I turn around and show her my room.

"Lia, that's not your room. I've been to your room a million times!" She says.

"I know. I moved." I say. I'm not telling her the full story quite yet.

"Yeah, but your sister is still here. I have seen her walking in and out of your house!" She continues.

"Yeah, I know. I just moved. She didn't though." I say, still not telling the full story.

"So... you moved out at the age of thirteen and your mom... let you?"

I shake my head.

"I don't legally have a mom anymore."

That is weird to think about, but it's true.

"Ok, Lia. Just tell me the truth." She sighs.

And so, I do.

"Okay, so, you're trying to tell me that Niall Horan adopted you?" She asks, clearly not believing me. Understandable, if she told me what I just told her, I wouldn't believe it either.

"Want proof?" I ask.

She nods, crossing her arms.

I turn and yell out my bedroom door,

"Niall!"

And of course, he comes running in immediately.

"What is it, Lia? Any trouble with schoolwork?" He asks, worried.

"No, my friend doesn't believe that you adopted me. She thinks that I'm making it up."

He steps into view of the camera on my laptop and waves.

Her jaw drops. She isn't even really a fan, but there is always something that washes over you when you meet a celebrity. Something that makes you feel special.

Bri screams.

"Oh. My. God. Lia!"

I nod.

"Yes, Bri. He's real." I say slowly, letting it sink in.
