After Dumbledore left, there was silence in the Potter Manor. You could hear a pin drop. "You do realize something don't you?" Lily talked for the first time in the last 10 minutes breaking the silence. "I do" James replied. "There is a high chance that we won't be alive for much longer" Lily says. "Ya... I think its about time we write our wills... you know.. just in case..." James said. "I agree. We can go to Gringotts tomorrow and write it, okay??" Lily said. With that they went to sleep.
The next day Lily woke up first, then she woke James up. Then she said. "Remember our plans?" "Yes" Replied James sleepily. They left Harry with the house elves and disapparated to Diagon Alley and walked up to Gringotts. They saw a free goblin and James cleared his throat. " Excuse us, we would like to write our wills today". The goblin looked up from some documents which he appeared to be reading. He said. " Please submit your wands here". They did what they were told to do. After examining both their wands briefly, he pressed a button on his desk. "Mr. and Mrs. Potter, please wait. The goblin in charge will arrive soon and will escort you to do what is required to write a will." They thanked the goblin and waited. Another Goblin arrived soon and he asked them to follow him. They stopped in front of an office room with the name Gornuk. The goblin walked into the room and sat on the main chair and beckoned them to follow suit and sit opposite him. After they sat comfortably, the goblin spoke for the first time. "Hello. I am Gornuk, the goblin in charge of the will department. I assume you want your wills written?" "Yes. We want to write a joined will." Lily replied. "Okay, but isn't it very early to write a will? After all, you just graduated!" the goblin asked. This time James answered. "We know its early but our lives are in danger. It is highly likely we won't life for long and if that happens Harry will have to live with his Godparents because our parents are dead and we don't want Harry to depend on them entirely." Gornuk nodded in understatement. "So you want a joint will?" "Yes" They both replied. Gornuk got up from his seat and went to a drawer. He then took out some parchment with some writings in it. Each parchment had more than 10 rolls. He got back to his seat and pushed the 1 piece of parchment towards the Potters. Then he said, "This is the template for a joint will. All you have to do is fill it. But you will need witnesses." "Ok." Said Lily. Then both of them read the long long parchment. "So we need at least 3 other people right?" James asked. "Yes. Please bring them here as fast as possible so that I can move on." Saying so, Gornuk got out of his chair, then continued. " I'll meet you here in Half an hour." They nodded. As soon as they left Lily asked. "What about we ask Sirius, Remus and Peter to be our witnesses?" "I was thinking the same and we can ask Dumbledore to be our executor. He needn't be here, we can just write a note and ask Fawkes to take it to him. Didn't he say that we only need to call Fawkes and he'll appear??" "Okay. Good idea. You floo to hogs head were Sirius is and ask him to join us and with his help go find Remus and Peter. Meanwhile I'll write the letter and see what the reply is" James nodded and soon he came back with the other 3 marauders. Dumbledore agreed to become the will executor after reading Lily's Letter almost immediately. By now Gornuk came back. "You can start with the filling now" He said. Since Lily had the best handwriting out of the 2 of them , she offered to write. Afterwards they signed their names. Remus wrote the Attestation Clause and all three Marauders signed their names and wrote their addresses. This is how it looked in the end.
