I ran through the corridors and when I finally reached the door I quickly opened it. The boys already stood there. Faces are flushed, bloodshot eyes and tear stained cheeks. They looked at my direction once they felt my entrance in the room. They all looked like they've just cried their eyes out. I turn my head to the lifeless Gwen lying on the hospital bed, with doctors about to remove the needles on her hand and the tube that's connected to her mouth.
“STOP!!!” I screamed. “Please just fucking stop!” I pleaded, looking down as tears finally escaped my eyes.
I looked up, meeting with the doctor's eyes “You can't do this to her! She needs to live” I choked on my own words.
The doctor sighed as he adjusted his lab coat “Mr. Styles you need to understand that--” I cut him off from talking “No! You need to understand that this girl still has a chance to live! There are people like me who are waiting for her to wake up. Its been a year doc--”
Now its him that cut me off “Yes its been a year and your time is up. Whether you like it or not. The machine will be removed” he glanced at his wristwatch before looking at me again “12 noon sharp will be the only extension we have to promise to you Mr. Styles. But after that...” he sighed “I’m sorry. But you have to say goodbye” he walked out the door without another word.
Sobs left my mouth as I collapsed to floor, covering my face. I felt arms on my back, rubbing it soothingly and when I look up I was surprised when I saw blue eyes looking into mine, reminding me of Gwen so much. Aunt Jenny patted my head and I immediately wrapped my arms around her.
“Shh shh shh. Its okay Harry” she whispered “Sometimes its better to let go the ones you love. It shows braveness, lad” she pulled me closer.
“I wish it didn't have to end this way” I sobbed loudly. “Me too. Me too” Aunt Jenny continued to whispered.
“But you know what? Gwen will be in the saftest place shes ever been to. And I'm sure when she's their. She will be up their watching you. Protecting you from any harm. And still...loving you” I looked up to meet her eyes. She smiled lightly but when the tears left my eyes, she can't help but cry too. She cupped her mouth and buried her face on my shoulder.
This couldn't get any worse.
****************************
I continued to stare down the floor. My mind wondering off to space. This couldn't be happening. Gwen. She needs to live. Even though I'll pay a heavy amount of money, that still won't stop the doctors from removing her life support.
“Harry” a voice called off, breaking my thoughts.
I looked up, seeing all the boys surrounding me as well as Aunt Jenny and the doctors earlier. My eyes wandered to my girlfriend like how she has been for a year, still breathing but not a sign of consciousness.
“Its time” Louis whispered. Instantly my eyes began to water as I slowly stood up. I received a few pats from the lads but none of that did any much comfort.
I walked towards her bed, tears spilling my eyes as I held her hand in mine one last time. “Gwen. I'm sorry” I looked at her face touching her cheek with my hand. “Im so sorry. But I think, I need to say goodbye. For good. I'm sorry I didn't have a say in this. I'm sorry. But please I need you to wake up now. Please” I pleaded and closed my eyes as tears continued to leave them. “I need you to wake up so this nightmare will finally end. I need this. We need this. Please. Please. Please...” I continued to whisper.
“Harry--”
“Please just give me more time!” I screamed.
Minutes have passed but still..nothing. I stareted to stand up, until I felt a squeeze on my hand. My eyes shot open. And I look down at Gwen, until I saw her hand moving.
“Gwen...” I slowly spoke.
Her eyelashes fluttered revealing her blue eyes that I so much adore. My heart went rapid as I saw it dart towards mine. My eyes widened and my palms began to sweat.
Her eyes wandered off to mine then to our clasped hands.
“Gwen!” I exclaimed then turn around facing the others “She's awake!” I shouted then turned back to Gwen.
I smiled as tears spill my eyes. “Gwen” I breathed out. But what happened next completely shocked me.
“How did you know my name?” she asked.
My lips parted at her question and I soon let go of her hand. “W-what do you mean? A-are you serious?” I chuckled half-heartedly and stroke her hair gently.
Her brows furrowed while her blue orbs turned into much more confusion. That's when it hit me like a thousand bricks.
She doesn't remember me.
“Gwen, honey. You don't remember Harry?” Aunt Jenny came closer. Gwen shook her head slightly and that's when suddenly she felt a stabbing pain on her head.
“What's happening?” I began to panic.
“Boys. We need you to leave the room for a moment, please”
The lads reluctantly agreed. My eyes fell to the girl in the hospital bed groaning in pain until it turned into shrills and later on, screams. The same girl I fell in love with three years ago. The same girl who made me who I am today. For a second of staring at her, the world seemed to go in slow motion as I slowly yet painfully exit the door, she looked at me. She looks bewildered as to why a stranger like me would even know her name. And for a second, I saw the same glint in her eyes that I have witnessed whenever she saw me but that quickly disappeared, once she remembered that I was a stranger to her.
