"Who would've thought? A boy from Daxam and a girl from Krypton, working together," Mon-El said with a broad grin. His eyes were twinkling with mirth and mischief.
"Absolutely beautiful..." Mon-El's lips felt too hot against hers, just like the hand caressing her cheek. He was running a high fever and his eyes were unfocused. She melted into the kiss, despite her surprise. She sat by him, watching him slip back into another feverish sleep. She was so afraid for him.
"...I wanna help you keep the world spinning..." Mon-El was sitting on her couch. He looked the most determined and serious she had seen him. He was inspired by her.
"...I love you... with everything that I have, I love you... " Mon-El's eyes were filled with tears, his heart was broken just like hers.
"As long as you're safe..." Mon-El was cupping her cheeks, his forehead touching hers, and the throb in her heart ached more sharply than the injury on her leg. He sacrificed himself so his psychopath of a mother would stop hurting her.
"You came after me..." Mon-El whispered into her ear as soon as his arms wrapped around her, hugging her dearly.
"You'll be in my heart..." Mon-El choked on his every breath. It was as if a part of her soul was tearing apart. It was unbearable, watching him depart, but there was no other way. He had to live, and for that reason he had to leave.
"You have to believe that no matter what century, or universe, or world I'm living in, that I would never forget you. Ever..." Mon-El was leaning against the cement railing next to her. The city was sparkling with thousands of flickering bright dots, stretched in front of them for miles upon miles. Her heart was heavy and he looked different, but she could still see a glimpse of the man she loved so much underneath seven years of grief.
Mon-El's face filled her vision, his wide blown eyes piercing her in alarm. Behind him, a swaying field of green basked in warm sunlight shone with a hazy glow. "Wake up!" he shouted.
Her eyes snapped open to total darkness, but in her mind's eyes, vivid images were still playing like a movie reel out of control. Kara gasped as the flood of memories took hold of her mind with a splitting headache. She barely registered her whereabouts, yet the swallowing darkness and inability to move any of her limbs sent spikes of dread into her heart. Kara closed her eyes again. It was hardly effective in preventing her inevitable panic attack. She let out a raw scream as a second wave of headache, accompanied by more memories attacked her mind.
"Now, the world needs you to fly, Kara." Alex's voice reached her ears easily through the door to her apartment. It meant the world to her that her sister believed in her. She was sitting alone in the darkness, touching her mother's necklace and seeking the comfort her memory always brought her.
"... I will always be your big sister..." No matter how strong and superhuman her powers were, Alex was always going to be that overprotective big sister she loved so much.
"You wanted to know if I have faith in you. I do, I always have." Hearing Alex's encouraging words unknotted the grim traces of doubt settled in her heart.
"I was afraid I was losing you, and I can't lose you," Alex's voice broke with a sob she no longer could hold back. She was devastated. How could she stand watching Alex like this? She couldn't lose her either.
"I can't do this without you." She was so proud of Alex. Of all of her. No matter who she chose to love.
"You're the only reason I've ever felt at home on this planet," She said and she meant every word. Alex was her family and her home. Without Alex, her life would have been so different. So unbearable.
