i'll probably make a second part, since i know there's more— my brain just can't think of them right now
-excuse me
すみません [sumimasen]
you'll hear this phrase used quite a lot in japan. when they accidentally brush their hand against someone, when they are trying to get someone's attention, etc.
e.g) -excuse me, can you please tell me where this restaurant is?
すみません、このレストランの場所を教えてくれませんか?
(すみません、このレストランのばしょをおしえてくれませんか?)
[sumimasen, kono resutoran no basho wo oshiete kuremasenka?]
sumimasen can also be used when you are apologizing. i will specify on this in the 'apologies' chapter!
-yes
はい [hai]
this simply means yes / understood.
-no
1.) いいえ [iie]
just no lol
2.) いや [iya]
just no again
be careful not to mistaken this for 嫌 [iya], which means 'don't want'.
-good night (bcoz i couldn't put it in 'basic greetings')
1.) おやすみ [oyasumi]
2.) おやすみなさい [oyasuminasai]
here, there's no polite one, it doesn't really matter whichever you use in my opinion. ( ・∇・)
