"Sir, no offence, but give me something real, not a man reporting his missing wife," Louis joked as his partner Zayn smirked.
"Sorry, detective, but I thought you would like this case if you heard more of this case," Captain Higgins shrugged, "but now, it's pointless as you won't be taking this up." He walked away, knowing very well that his detective has been intrigued.
"Umm no!" Louis ran up to his captain, Zayn followed. "Tell me more."
"My office," Higgins instructed.
The three of them sat in his office. Higgins presented a file on the table and opened it. The two officers peeked into it. They saw a picture of a woman, in her twenties, smiling brightly at the camera.
"This is Gemma Styles Payne," Captain Higgins pointed out. "And this, is her husband," Captain brought forward another picture of a man, around the same age as the woman, "his name's Liam Payne."
"Where's the cool part?" Zayn pressed.
"The cool part, Detective Malik is that Mr. Payne's a very high profile businessman and I promised to give this case to a capable officer," Higgins rolled his eyes.
"So you think I am capable?" Louis mused and Higgins scoffed.
"Yes, Tomlinson. You've solved every case and brought so many to justice," Higgins admitted to his very own displeasure.
"But seriously, finding some biggies missing wife is so.."
"I'll take it," Louis cut Zayn off. Higgins and Malik both eyed him in confusion.
"That was easy," their captain was taken aback. "I want Malik to work the case with you."
"On it," Zayn nodded, still not convinced with Louis' sudden change of attitude.
"Why did you agree?" Zayn asked as they sat down on their desk, one's opposite to the other's.
"This will turn into something big," Louis casually said as he read the file thoroughly.
"What? How'd you know?" Zayn shot up from his seat and went over to Louis'. He leaned over Louis' shoulder, balancing himself holding the back of his chair.
"Rich businessman's wife's missing, he obviously killed her or kidnapped her. He didn't want to be suspected, so filed the report," Louis said as he continued reading.
"How are you so sure?"
"Because rich dudes are dicks," Louis shrugged.
"And that's your giveaway?" Zayn rolled his eyes.
"No Z, that's not," Louis looked up at Zayn, "Gemma Payne's been missing for three months."
"Let me get this straight," Zayn cleared his head up and started briefing whatever he understood to Louis. "Gemma Payne was reported missing on 7th July by her husband, Liam. The case's been through different officers of different levels till it reached us. We cannot let go if it because Liam's not withdrawn the complaint and also cannot declare it cold because we didn't find her dead and her husband is fucking rich."
"Basically, we need to find Mrs. Payne, alive or dead. But we have no leads. Interesting," Louis smirked.
"We could talk to them again," Zayn suggested and Louis nodded.
"Woah, Payne lives in a decent house," Zayn said as they rang the doorbell.
"Told ya, rich as fuck," said Louis.
