"So, you know she did it?!" Zayn slammed his mug on the table.
"Yep."
"And we're letting her off?!"
"Yep."
"Because there's no proof?!"
"All true, Zayn!" Louis rubbed his pupils.
"And you're telling me after a week?!" Zayn was doing this for the third time that morning, came as quite a shocker for him.
"I was busy this week, 'cause we have a case but there's nothing to do about it, so I got to take time off," Louis reasoned.
"Louis," Zayn lowered his voice, "another week and this is over. Can you live with the fact that you let the murderer go?"
"She didn't kill," Louis shrugged.
"How do you know?! You said she wanted you to believe it was only her!"
"It was clear she was covering up for somebody," Louis said. "When she's not thinking much, not as fantastic a liar as before. So, whoever she's saving means something to her."
"Could be the brother, he has a reason to kill and she has a reason to protect him," Zayn suggested.
"Hmm, their alibis were also same."
"Wow," Zayn sat back, "the entire mystery is solved in front of us, but we can't do anything."
"And I'm falling for the murder accomplice," Louis threw his head back.
"You what?!" Zayn jerked in his chair.
Louis shot his head up again. "I like her!" he tried to change his statement.
"Louis," Zayn's eyes were still wide, "it was a week-long fling. Please don't tell me you're in love with her."
"I'm not," he said, honestly. "It'll just take time to get over."
"Such an impact in a week," Zayn gave a thought, "I'm impressed."
One week later
"So, there was one disappearance you were investigating and suddenly you find her, but the husband's off?" Captain Higgins rolled his eyes.
"We exhausted every lead Captain, he's nowhere," Zayn informed.
"So, it's a cold case?"
"Yeah," Louis nodded.
"What about your 'I'll give Gemma Styles the justice she deserves', Tomlinson?"
"Well, I tried, and I know it has to be Payne who killed 'cause he's off," Louis gulped.
"Sure you two aren't hiding something?" Higgins narrowed his eyes.
"Absolutely!"
"Duh!"
"Convincing," Higgins rolled his eyes. "Just let the families and people involved know.
"Sure, Captain." With that Louis took off and Zayn gladly followed.
"So, we're declaring Liam Payne missing, Miss Calder," Zayn informed. Like you didn't know- Zayn mentally thought and rolled his eyes.
"Okay. Thanks, Detective," Eleanor got up and Zayn followed suit.
"You know, I know?" Zayn hissed as he shook her hand.
"Of course he told you," Eleanor whispered back. "So, I'll take off?"
"Sure, ma'am."
Eleanor started walking away and Zayn sighed. He brought his phone out and dialed the number.
