!TW: violence, injuries, blood, death!

---------

How much time had passed? How long since the wall had collapsed?

The green light that had wrapped the Acre into a protecting embrace was gone now and the air was filled with a thick layer of dust and the smell of blood instead.

A scream cut through the silence, quickly followed by another one.

Fear. Pain. Blood. Death.

More and more bodies collapsed to the floor as the attackers made their way further into the Acre. Crushed from the weight of the 5 giants or killed by the ambrosia addicts. The earth was shaking and with every passing second, the danger came closer and closer.

The streets were in chaos. People were running around, trying to find their families, friends, and children, the fear written on their faces.

Were they strong enough to hold the Wights back? Did they even stand a chance? Or was it going to be their last night?

Lots of Peculiars had run to the loop entrance as soon as the shield collapsed but none of them had returned yet and it didn’t seem to have slowed down the Wights much. Maybe because everyone had expected an army of Hollows and not five giant Wights and dozens of ambrosia addicts.

The enemies were coming closer, tearing down buildings and leaving nothing but chaos and destruction behind. Smoke was rising from the buildings and filled the air, making it harder to breathe.

And in the middle of all that chaos stood the ministry building where Peculiars and Ymbrynes had crowded inside as if the building provided safety from the approaching danger.

"If we can gather all the bone-menders inside, we can later bring the injured here," one of the Ymbrynes said.

"Wouldn't it be better to use a building that is further away, so it would take the Wights longer to reach it?" Millard interjected.

"If the building is too far away, none of the injured will make it there in time. Besides I don't think we have the time to bring everyone to another place anymore," Miss Wren answered, looking out of the window.

The first ambrosia addicts started to appear in their field of view, followed by the giants who were still tearing down buildings.

“That’s settled then.”

Miss Avocet left with these words, followed by Miss Wren and Francesca.

Miss Peregrine was still looking out of the window, carefully watching how the enemies came closer with every step they took.

The other Ymbrynes could be heard as they were trying to sort the Peculiars into groups so that everyone's peculiarity could be useful during the fight.

She tried to suppress the rising feeling of fear but that got harder with every passing second.

“So it begins,” Miss Peregrine whispered.

Miss Cuckoo laid a hand on the shorter woman's shoulder, hoping it would comfort her at least a little.

“We will survive; we always have,” she smiled softly.

----------

There were so many, where were they coming from? The army seemed unstoppable, wiping out one Peculiar after another.

“Still so positive that we will survive?” Miss Peregrine asked, ducking to avoid the black acid coming from one of the giant Wights.

“Would be a pity if not. I had planned to dye my hair purple when I turn 150,” Miss Cuckoo replied laughing slightly.
