"So this is what freedom is like," Elizabeth said with her arms outstretched and breathing in the fresh spring air. Aspen shoved her, "It's not freedom, it's just a small peak."
"Yeah but just smell it out here! I feel free and without a care in the world!" Elizabeth said while she spun around.
Aspen sighed and pushed their hair behind their ear while smiling at Elizabeth. They fixed their backpack and glanced over to Liz, "Maybe it's time to start heading down?"
Elizabeth looked at them and tilted her head a little, "We just got up here Aspen... just- take a breath in, try to enjoy it out here." She sighed and shoved Aspen a bit.
"You bitch.." Aspen sighed at her.
"What?? I didn't do anything but speak the truth!!" Liz said with a wry smile.
"Mm. You have a point I guess," Aspen muttered.
"YES SEE!!!!" Elizabeth jumped around with excitement and grabbed onto her best friends shoulders, "Come onnn there's a higher spot!"
Aspen sighed and tied their hair back, "Alright fine let's go."
They were making their way up to the top with smiles and laughs when they finally got there. "FINALLY!!!" Elizabeth smiled brightly and took in the view.
"It is nice up here after all," stated Aspen.
"I told you so," Elizabeth smirked.
They sat up there for a while, smiling and laughing and talking about forgotten memories. This was a day that Elizabeth would remember forever.
They began to head down when the sun began to set, being careful not to trip on anything as it was getting dark, they both went home for the night after saying their goodbyes although they'd be seeing each other in the morning.
