Her immediate thought was to run away; now they knew her secret power, they'd probably arrive wielding pitchforks and flaming torches to burn her at the stake for being a witch. The rest of the world may have moved on from that era, but her town hadn't. Everyone had to attend a witch-burning ceremony. It was compulsory for even small children. The girl had witnessed enough of them to know that even the slightest little detail can get you burnt to a crisp.

She ran away to the nearby woods, hiding in the shadows. She had managed to bring a few provisions that would last about a week. She decided to find somewhere safe to rest.
