I gasped and shot up, blinking my sensitive eyes in the light.
"Vivian!" I heard my mother shout. "She's awake, thank goodness." Relief evident in her voice.
I glanced around but the room was empty, the only object in sight was a glowing bulb standing in the centre of the room. But before I could register anymore, I felt myself falling. The magic had fully worn off.
I landed in a rainbow of beanbags that had been placed below where I was on the ceiling. My face remained buried in the soft fabric as mother rushed to my side.
"Are you alright Viv?" She asked anxiously, taking my left hand in hers.
"Never mind that just now." Cantatio interrupted. "Did you get the Lyra crystal?" While I couldn't see, I knew this would have earned her a harsh glare from my mother.
"The health of my daughter is much more important to me than some crystal." She stated through gritted teeth.
"Oh ho, let's not get into an argument just now." Merlon said as I finally lifted my heavy head from amongst the bean bags. "Are you quite alright my dear?" He asked, joining the small crowd surrounding me.
I nodded, not quite wanting to open my mouth yet in case I threw up.
"I'm guessing from the way you rose up you visited the Yondermist?" He continued.
I nodded again, not sure if he was asking or just stating a fact.
My mother squeezed onto the bean bags with me and wrapped her arm around my trembling form, pulling me close. I laid my head on her chest, the steady rhythm of her heartbeat calming me, whisking me back to the times before she disappeared and would sit and read with Nyx and I nuzzled in on either side of her.
As I began to feel steadier I unclasped the hand which had been clenched since my return and reached it towards Merlon. "I visited the Glee Enchantress. She gave me the crystal." I stated as I placed it gently into Merlon's open hands. My mother squeezed my other hand in a well done to show she was proud.
Merlons eyes were a glowing emerald when they met mine, a grin appearing above his beard. "Words can't describe how proud I am of you, I can't thank you enough for all you have done Vivian." A small blush crept onto my cheeks as he wrapped the crystal in a small velvet cloth and slid it carefully into his pocket.
"Well done Vivian!" Cantatio exclaimed. She leaned in a little closer. "Sorry about earlier, I'm just so anxious about the fact our land could be swept away and lost forever."
"It alright." I replied.
Mother nodded. "I understand, we are all incredibly worried and hopefully we will be able to stop the void.
At that moment the ground began to tremble once again, the house shaking violently and several books falling from the shelves. Thankfully it stopped just as quickly as it began, and we all breathed a huge sigh of relief.
"I hope Nyx is okay." My mother said worriedly, sitting up taller on the bean bags to glance across the room.
Nyx. In all the excitement I had forgotten. I guiltily followed my mother's eyes across the room to where Nyx was lying completely still on the carpet. I pushed myself up from my mother, squeezing her hand once more before approaching my sister.
