CHAPTER TEN

Jax O'Connor's POV:

After Mia had rushed off in her wolf form to go hide from the attack, I moved into the pack area, finding chaos occurring. I growled in frustration and anger as I felt someone hit my head with their fist, turning around to kill them quickly. Snapping their neck, I quickly moved next to Mia's dad, backing him up against the three big wolves that were holding him down, he had a gash along his right side but was already healing from the hit.

I pushed one of the wolves into the ground before lowering my mouth to its neck in anger, my fangs ripping through the flesh easily, pulled the big chunk of its neck away with it. I fed from him quickly to gain strength for the rest of the fight. This one would be easy for me. I smirk before grabbing the wolf that had tried to get on my back from behind, tearing into the flesh of its tender belly, it is shrieking and moving in my hold. My hand wraps around its neck and I end its life quickly, seeing its body relax and fall into its human form again. A boy lay under me, fear written all over his face from the attack. Stupid boy, fighting when you should be studying, now you won't do anything again.

I kept fighting with the pack I was with, hearing whimpers of pain and howls of fear from the rogues. The majority of these wolves were younger boys, probably convinced or forced for some reason to attack this pack, probably for vampires. Our mind compulsion is very strong when we want it to be, but only for a few species, one being wolves. I took a step back to view the area around me, my surroundings being blurs of fur and blood. I felt a rumble start deep in my chest from my vampire, hearing the thoughts of these young boys. 'Oh goddess, I don't want to do this anymore. Please, goddess give me a merciful death.' 'We are going to lose, because of these stupid vampires I am going to lose my life, and my family. I should just relax and let this man kill me' 'PLEASE OH GOD LET ME LIVE PLEASE MOOD GODDESS' 'I know what we are doing is wrong, but we can't stop. Their compulsion is just too strong for my wolf to resist.'

I roared out loud, causing wolves to freeze at the sound of my anger. "Stop." It was one word that came from my mouth, but so powerful being from my vampiric side. Every single wolf around me, regardless of being rogue or not being in my official pack, stopped and stood from on top of each other, let throats go and pulled themselves into their human forms at my command and compulsion. "Who ordered this attack on this pack? Speak boy." I moved in front of a smaller boy, no older than 14 or 15 years old, seeing his whole-body shudder and shake with fear at being so close to me.

"I- it was the vampires, sir. I could not control myself with their compulsion and trickery. They killed our alpha and took our families captive as bait. Once we awoke from being passed out, they were around us compelling us to come here. I- I AM SORRY." He shrieked as I pulled him closer to me, closing his small eyes, squeezing them shut with the fear of death. "Who is your alpha boy, what pack do you people come from?" I growled lowly hearing snickers from Mia's pack as the boy started to cry in my hold.

I let him go before sighing in frustration, my hand moving into my hair and over my face before moving to this boy's hair. "Calm down, boy. You are not dying today. I just need to know this information so I can send my men to your homes to get your families back." His body stills under my touch and his eyes, still wet with tears and blood red from the crying, looks up at me before crying again and hugging me against his tiny body. "We are from Alpha Bramwell's pack, just north of here, I- we are a part of the Red Moon pack sir." He pulls away and just as I was about to respond I hear her voice in my mind link, frantic and scared explaining how they were being infiltrated by both vampires and werewolves and to come quickly before they get inside.

I felt my vampire beast take over, roaring out a loud growl, shaking the ground beneath us all, everyone falling to their knees and baring their necks at me in submission at the sound. Whimpers from all the boys, and grunts from all the grown men in the pack, I command them to stay here while I retrieve my mate and their families. They obeyed and I grabbed a wolf and told him to take me to the safe house right now, these boys were a trap. They just wanted my Mia.

I growled again, "I'm coming baby, just hold them off for me." I sent it through the mind link, not taking the time to hear a response, knowing very well it was possible that the message hadn't even been sent through to her, seeing as she had all of her defenses up. It was enough for me though, a promise to myself more than her that I would always save her and come home to her. My beautiful little wolf. I shifted into my own wolf, towering over the man next to me who was shifting as well, starting to take off in an odd direction.

I followed suit, not connecting our mind link knowing he wouldn't betray my command and take me away from her. The closer we got, the angrier I felt, seeing all of these wolves standing here in front of this little shack of a building, trying to get to my mate. I roared out as I shifted back into my human form, shaking the ground again. Hearing more commotion and seeing wolves dropping, my ears ringing with the amount of gun shots flying from the building. Of course, they wouldn't leave their prized children and precious mates unarmed and unsafe. My little mate is ferocious as she shoots wolf after wolf.

I growled at the wolves that were coming around me, trying to trap me but faltering with fear of me and my beastly form. I was much larger and much stronger than these tiny wolves. Though, somehow, one had gotten ahold of the back of my neck, trying to dominate my body to kill me swiftly, and as they piled on top of me, I rumbled my chest more, showing my anger. I had probably five wolves on me until I shifted into my wolf form quickly, causing a disruption in the pile, their small bodies moving away from my own, shifting as well.

I see them start to slowly make their way away from my large wolf, seeing my mouth baring large teeth, with vampire fangs attached to the already larger canines, dripping saliva as I watch my meal try to run. Let the hunt begin. Their wolves tried to run, some getting away as my body tore through the mass of wolves still standing in front and behind myself. Their bodies turned to humans quickly, dismembered and disemboweled from my long claws. By the time I had killed them all, the vampires and most of the boy wolves fled from the area, so I spared their lives.

I huffed seeing one wolf still standing, I assume an old alpha or beta, trying to stand tall in their wolf form, staggering back in fear as I spit the human's arm from my tight jaw, snarling at this man in front of me. A true predator to prey moment in nature, the forest was quiet and so were the women, who I assumed were listening for the fight to end. His form flew toward me while I was zoned out, my body held true to the ground though, not even faltering when his claws left a deep gash in my chest area, going to my shoulder.

His other paw flung forward and tried to cut my throat, failing miserably as his back foot was swept from him by a dead body part, twisting his ankle. Effectively giving me the kill easily, I grabbed him after shifting, standing over the weak wolf, grabbing his neck in one hand, his paws clawing at my wrist and arm trying to get free. I snapped his neck quickly and threw his body toward the building, his head following the now human body shortly. I huffed a breath and moved swiftly to gather my scared mate, hearing her quick heartbeat as I got closer. No doubt she could hear my steps on the crunchy leaves, not being able to smell me at the moment through the mass of blood on my body.

I saw her head and her wide eyes peeking through the doorway, still standing back against the wall in front of the young pack members, her face twisted with a frown. I walked through the doorway, stepping over the mass of bodies shot and killed in the fight. I made eye contact with my mate just before I felt her small form collapse against my own, her head shifted to allow my face into it, inhaling her scent to calm myself down from the hectic fight. I kept my firm grasp on her as if she would fly away if I let her go.

I heard her small voice against the side on my head where her hands were holding it there. "Oh Jax, you're okay." She sighed with relief at the fact, relaxing more when I responded "Yes, little wolf. I will always come back to you." I kissed the side of her head and looked around for the children and women, making sure they are okay. Her grandmother looked at me with a fondness I wasn't used to, before nodding her head as if to say "Go on, we will be fine. Be with your mate." I look at her face for a moment longer before walking out, my mate's form still attached to myself.
