Soulless

A teary eyed toddler was looking at her, his head barely reaching her mid thighs. His skin was bluish and blood was running down his little arm. He could barely talk because of the hiccups. His emerald green eyes were turning greyish. She could clearly see life leaving them, yet he was too young to understand that he was dying. He could only call for his mother, because he was hurt, because he wanted her comfort. He was calling for her.

He was calling for his mommy.

And she was watching him with tears running down her face, yet she could not do anything. How much she wanted to just run and hug him tightly in her arms.

Still, she could only sit there and watch her baby become a walking dead. A body with no soul.

Oh! how much she wished it was her who was turning into a zombie and not him.

Evelynn opened her damp, sore eyes. They were filled with the tears of her heart's demise. It was the same nightmare she's been having for god knows how many years now. It was more of a memory, a recollection of the most tragic part of her last life, that she so wished to forget.

She looked out the window and focused her gaze on the white full moon.

It's already been six years.

Six years since she came to this unfamiliar world. A calm and peaceful world, the complete opposite of where she came from. She came from the apocalypse, a place where humans were sometimes more dangerous than actual zombies. She had fought for her life for three years, until her son died. It was then that she gave up, what's the meaning of fighting if her sole motive was now gone?

When she first transmigrated, she thought that this might be her second chance in life. Maybe she could meet her husband and son again? They too might have transmigrated.

She spent four whole years searching for them, but they were nowhere to be found. That's when she lost all hope. Her heart became deserted.

Fate was playing with her. What a joke! How could she actually think of living happily when she has been a neglectful mother and wife? Why was she the one getting a second chance and not her baby and husband? They deserve it more than anyone, at least more than her.

She just wanted to go back to her family. She wanted to be a good mother for her baby and a virtuous wife for her husband. She wanted to see them again.

She remembers that when she was falling to her death, her eyes kept staring at the beautiful and enchanting moon. She couldn't help thinking that it looked exactly the same as the moon she was observing now.
