REFLECTIONS

BY

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

[Y/N's POV - 2nd Person]

I woke up and my head hurt like a bitch. I blinked my eyes open and look up at the ceiling. I slowly pushed myself up, but stopped, as I felt a weight on my lower chest. I diverted my eyes downwards to see Jaeden sleeping on my lap. His breathes were shallow and quick paced, as if he had just come back from a run.

I looked at him, wondering whether too wake him up and ask what had happened, or lay back down and fall asleep again with him on me.

My head was still throbbing and I didn't really want to get up yet. I lay back down, careful not to wake Jaeden. He stifles a bit in his sleep before scrunching his eyes together and sighing, cuddling into me more.

My stomach filled up with butterflies from this. I'm not sure why, but it was a nice feeling. I fall asleep again and it's not long before I hear a distancing ringing and a lot of shuffling. Jaeden was still deep in slumber on my lap.

My eyes opened wearily before I shut them again. 5 minutes later, Angela comes down the stairs. I can hear her stopping on the stairs, probably looking at us, before sighing happily and going into the kitchen.

I hear some scribbling and a jingle of keys before her footsteps walk out the front door, closing with a light click. I don't know what time or day it is. All I remember is walking back from the park and a weird creep in a van talking to m-

Oh shit. Oh fuck!

If what I think happened actually happened, I need to ask Jaeden.

I scramble about, sitting myself up against a pillow behind me. My head is screaming in agony at the sudden movements but I can worry about that later.

Jaeden's head is still hanging but not on me anymore. I lift his head up gently and poke his arm, trying to wake him up. He doesn't. I take his head into both on my hands and slightly shake his head.

His eyes open and lock onto mine.

"Jaeden.." I whisper. He blinks a few times before his face dawns with a look of fear. He moves around a bit, looking for something.

"Jaeden." I say in a clearer voice.

"Wait a second." He mumbles. My whole body tenses at his morning voice. I swallow before waiting for him to lift his head.

He resurfaces with a pack of pills and pops one out. He grabs a glass of water off the coffee table and hands them to me. I look at him with a confused expression.

"Take the pill." He coughs. "Please."

I don't like this. Why is he giving me a pill. Is he trying to drug me?!

"Why- what's this for?" I say, shaking my head, trying to make sense of this.

"It's for your concussion. Your head probably hurts real bad right now, am I right?"

I nod.

I pop the pill in my mouth before gulping down the water, swallowing the pill down with it.

"Okay, why did I need to take that?"

"For your head, I told you."

"Yes but what happened to my head? Why does it hurt so fucking much?"

He sighs before looking me dead in the eyes.

By the time he finishes the story, there are tears flowing down my cheeks. Jaeden looks like he's about to cry too. I don't think about what I'm about to do, I just go for it.

I lean in, my arms spread outwards, and I hug him. I feel him freeze before wrapping his arms around mine.

We sit there like that for a couple of minutes. Embracing each other. I can feel his body heat radiate onto mine. It's calming. I haven't hugged someone in what seems like years.

We break our hug and look at each other.

"Thanks.." I mumble.

"You're welcome." He mutters. He stands up and heads to the kitchen, returning with some ice.

He hold it against my forehead before telling me to lie down. The most unexpected thing happened.

He started humming.

It was awkward at first, but after a while it was somewhat soothing.

My eyes started to droop and I felt the ice being removed from my head. His humming got louder as he came closer to me.

He stopped humming momentarily before kissing me on the forehead.

He stood up straight again and started humming as he walked up the stairs.

"I'll be back soon, for your next pill." I heard him say before going up to his room.

Oh my god.

He thought wouldn't feel the kiss because of the numbing from the ice.

Well, jokes on him.

I'm used to being numb.
