Sharky's people have their own language and Sydney is currently learning that language. Apparently the language is called sharkese/sharkwonese.
Obviously this got me thinking
1)that Sharky name is a mistranslation of his actual name
2) Sharky isn't actually stupid, he just simply doesn't understand what people in land do/ is constantly experiencing culture shock
3) the possibility that every animal-hybrid has their own culture/language (them being poc coded)
4) Sharky's language has two different versions of itSo Sharky's name not actually being Sharky and is just a mistranslation has multiple possibilities, also I'm basing Sharky off of Asians, more specifically Chinese and Taiwanese because of the names and the "ese"/"wonese". So Chinese people often pick English names to make it easier for foreigners to pronounce and as well has two names (their English and Chinese names) according to goeastmandrin.com "Most recently, people choose an English name to facilitate doing business with international colleagues, reasoning that it's easier for colleagues to pronounce an English name." And "Many people admit that their English teacher, friend or colleague gave them their English name and they don't know much about its meaning." The article then stated that sometimes people choose names that aren't necessarily names "choosing a name based on the meaning of a Chinese character results in a non-standard English name, such as Alone or Season."
One version of this theory is that Sharky name in sharkese/sharkwonese and the word "shark" have similar pronunciation and SS just simply assumed that "Sharky" is his name. We already know Sharky has trouble with English, so it's not crazy to speculate that Sharky simply assumed his name translates to "Sharky".(this is assuming SS knows a little of sharkese)
Another could be that Sharky simply didn't choose an English name and had go off of what SS was calling him.
Or the possibility that SS simply tried to choose a name for him until Sharky was okay with just "Sharky"
2) Sharky isn't stupid, he's just experiencing culture shock
It's canon that Sharky has trouble with English and has those books that helps kids learn English and he very much has a child like wonder about everything.
I'm pretty sure it's also canon he grew up very sheltered
Given all these things, it's makes sense that he's "stupid" to other people, but in reality he literally never experienced walking, driving, flying, eating all of kinds of food that weren't just seafood, because he's been underwater for majority of his life.
The only interaction he had with humans at most were the bodyguards his dad had, and it's canon he's doesn't get along with other sharks, so him not reading the room and coming off as annoying makes sense.
I should point out that this also adds into him being POC coded, people who aren't from a certain culture or country, sometimes "overact" or have seem to be "childlike"
And example of this is that Japanese women who came over to America to study and got really famous for her reactions to stuff that just so normal for American people.3) The possibility of every animal hybrid having their own culture, language, etc
This might actually be canon, please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this, it has been years since I've last watched themWe see this with Cassie and Donut more, but Donut grew up with mainly a large Dog hybrid neighborhood while Cassie grew up with all cats.
Donut getting offended when called a mutt, and when they were dating both of their families having such a strong distaste that they're dating outside of their species, them sometimes using their animal traits when it's convenient.
I'm pretty sure Donut had taken some pride into being a dog as well.
Obviously this ties in the whole POC coded thing, wish I could write more, but this is as far as I can remember about them, sorry!4) Sharkys language having two versions of it
This just explains why there's two names of supposedly the same language, it's also not uncommon for the same language having different versions of it, Spanish is an example of this, Spain Spanish is not the same as Latin America Spanish and even then countries in Latin America aren't the same and simply stuff like tone, pronunciation, hand gestures, volume, how fast your speaking it and of course your accent can determine what version your speaking and where you are from.I'm not really sure how to end this, please correct me if I'm wrong about any of the information I've said, that's it
