Prologue

Jordyn sits herself down on the couch as I walk into the room "hey Haze, you have mail!" I pick up the stack of mail, flipping through every one bill, taxes, bill, taxes, organizations, but one catches my eye. It's from my father, I peel open the envelope and slide out the little card inside. By this time, Jordyn has already made her way over to my shoulder peering from behind it to see what I'm looking at.

This is an invitation to the family party on March 25! Please wear your best formal attire and you are more than welcome to bring a plus one. There will be drinks and food served throughout the great hall, but dinner will be served in the dining hall and will be expected around 7:00. The party starts around 6:00 P.M. So please attend or regret.

A little piece of brown colored paper flutters to the floor from the card, Jordyn picks it up, reading it aloud with disapproving eyes.

Hazel, this is your father, your mother and I would absolutely love for you to attend. You matter to this family and we thought it would be best for you to be here for this party. Please wear something nice and bring your best attitude for your family's sake, love you angel, and see you there!
