Daryl held Beth in his arms on the dance floor on the dimly lit floor of the smoky country bar as the house band played popular country tunes. How Beth was able to get him out on the dance floor he couldn’t figure out since Daryl Dixon did not dance. Not ever. Especially with a woman. Oh sure, he had been asked to dance before by numerous other women, but he always had some excuse as to why he couldn’t. His seat was at the bar as he watched as other couples would get up and dance on the slick wooden floor. He was a people watcher, sitting back, observing others as he lingered over his Jack Daniels on the rocks. It was on one such occasion that he saw her. The prettiest girl he had ever seen walked into the bar with another woman and an Asian looking guy. Her long, flowing, golden hair fell down her back, framing a face that featured the bluest eyes this side of Georgia. They were big and doe like and were accentuated by muted earthy toned eye shadow and just a hint of mascara, which made her eyes pop and sparkle as she looked around the room for a place to sit down with her entourage. As Daryl looked at her further he couldn’t ignore her white porcelain skin, nor the curves that were evident by the cut off blue denim shorts that she wore that hugged her shapely rear end and the tied up above her navel red plaid shirt that showed off her taut midriff. Cowboy boots completed her ensemble and he watched underneath hooded, sea-blue eyes as she walked with the other female and her male companion towards the bar, sitting down on a stool just a few seats down from him. Daryl sat there for several minutes as he savored his third Jack of the night. His gaze would periodically wander over to where the blonde sat. He stared at the back of her, observing her slim legs that hung casually down off the seat of the barstool as she talked with her friends. Every now and then, Daryl’s imagination would go off the deep end and he would wonder what it might be like for those creamy white legs to be wrapped around his waist as he plowed into her. Obviously, there were other guys that had the same idea as he watched, guy after guy come over and try to talk to her and every time she would politely shoot them down and send them on their way. Every guy that is, except one. Daryl watched as the guy in the worn leather jacket, ripped denim jeans and motorcycle boots approached the flaxen haired girl time after time and each time she would try to shoo him away. He watched as the guy would get in her face and get touchy-feely with her. The first time he put his hands on her shoulders, the next he tried to put his hands on her back. Finally, he stepped over the line, trying to cop a feel on her tight bottom when she tried to get up and get away from him. “Hey, watch it,” she said to him as she tried to take several steps to remove herself from the man with the roaming hands. The brunette that was with her started yelling at him to keep his hands off her sister, while the Asian guy, tried to get in between the blonde and the other man. As Daryl observed the altercation, Daryl wondered if he should get involved. It wasn’t like him to insert himself like that but for some reason he felt very protective of the tiny blonde just a few steps away from him. The man shoved the Asian aside and went to get in the brunette’s face, as Daryl sprung into action.
“Hey, the lady don’t want you touching her. It’s best you move along,” Daryl growled to the man in the leather jacket. “Excuse me?” the man responded as he turned to face the redneck. Steel blue eyes met with deep brown as the two men stared each other down before Daryl responded. “You need to leave the girl alone. She don’t want you messing with her,” he said as he got in the other man’s face. “Well, I don’t think that’s any of your business, redneck.” Daryl glared at the man and put his face close to the man’s as their eyes met in a standoff. “You touch her again, I’ll beat your ass. You hear?” Daryl went to walk away as the other man’s fist came straight at his face. Daryl hurriedly moved out of the way as the man’s fist missed its target. Turning on his side, Daryl hit the man squarely in the jaw and then in his nose, knocking the man down on the floor. Daryl threw several more punches before someone pulled him off of the would-be suitor. Giving him a kick, Daryl stated again, “Time for you to leave, asshole, before I knock the shit out of you.” Glancing up at Daryl, the man wiped his lip with the back of his hand and went to get up. He walked away as the blonde came up to Daryl. “Thanks for what you did. That guy was all over me. You didn’t have to do that,” she continued, “Can I buy you a drink or something? Name’s Beth”, the blonde beauty said to him as she gave him a shy smile and held out her hand for a handshake. Daryl stared down at her. She was like an angel and the sweet scent of her wildflower scented perfume made him forget where he was or his manners. “Naw, s’okay, gotta go,” as he turned to walk away. “Wait, what’s your name?” the blonde asked. “Daryl,” he said and walked away. He walked out of the bar and into the parking lot and was just about to sit on his bike when he heard a voice behind him. “Daryl, please, let me talk to you,” and he looked up to find her standing there. God, she looked beautiful in the paleness of the moon. Sort of like a diaphanous blonde doll. “No one has ever done that for me. I really appreciate it. Won’t you come back inside so I can get you a drink, please?” The way she said “please” gave him butterflies. He wasn’t well versed with the ladies. Sure, he had been to bed with his share but none of them gave him the feelings like this one did. She seemed so innocent and pure and his instinct was to protect her. Something about her was so familiar, almost like he had known her all of his life but she was a stranger to him. He looked at her again. He wanted to say no and excuse himself but there was something about her that wouldn’t let him do it. “Alright”, he said and he followed her back into the bar.
