puppies and critters~ 10k z nation

A/N) hey so this chapter is gonna be VERY loosely based off of season 1 ep 10  "going nuclear")

The group felt like they had walking forever.  They were slowly but surely making their way to the cdc lab in California... emphasis on the slowly.
Despite her want to move on warren was realizing that they should probably find somewhere to hunker down for the night. 
"There's supposed to be a little town near by called edgemont-"

Before she could finish warren was cut off by doc's voice

"wait did you say Edgemont? As in Edgemont, South Dakota?"

"Yea why?" she asked "do you know someone there or something?"

"Well yeah I used to I guess. My sisters husband lived there pre z" doc stated wondering about what ever happened to him.

"Do you think he's still alive?" 10k asked him.

"No most likely not I'm pretty sure he had diabetes and it's pretty hard to get insulin these days." Doc paused for a moment and then continued in a more cheerful manner. "But he was one of those crazy 'the end is near' type of guys. He must've had 5 years worth of food stashed at his place the last I seen him, but that was pre z"

"From the map the town looks pretty small there's a chance there could still be some food there" warren knew it was a long shot but they had to pass through anyway so what's the harm.

The rest of the group perked up at this information. They had been running on fumes for almost 2 days now and the thought of that much food stored just a couple miles away was enough to put a pep in their step.

Murphy was of course the only one that didn't want to go
"Oh come on you people really think this could be real? It's the god damn Apocalypse everything's either  been stolen or blown to smithereens"

Everyone was use to Murphy's pessimistic rants by now so they easily ignored him

Doc pointed out the house map and they all started their 30 minute trek to the hopefully well stocked location.

As they approached the house warren pointed to the zombies on the front porch, Signaling Addy and Mack to distract them.  As the couple worked warren and doc got the z's that came up first while 10k shot the ones that were still going at Addy and Mack.  Murphy stood to the side looking unimpressed as usual.

Seeing as there were no where zombies in sight the group continued to the house. Still cautious of any zs that might jump out they waited by the door to see if they could hear anything. No one heard anything too bad so they stepped into the house.

They stepped into the front door and were surprised to see a relatively clean house.
"Anyone else thinking maybe someone's been living here?" Doc asked the group

"Let's hope not cuz I'm starving" Mack replied while looking around the house for any threats

"Where did he keep the food doc" Warren asked, bringing her gaze to the older man.

Doc pointed his finger to the laundry room which they soon discovered was the only room with a Z in it. 
10K quickly raised his gun and gave the poor soul mercy.

"i'm not seeing any food in here" Murphy said much to the disappointment of the others.

"No he didn't keep it in the open. Look" Doc once again pointed but this time to the ground.

The latch on the ground was hidden well enough that someone who didn't know to look for it probably wouldn't have seen it.

"hand me that crowbar." Warren gestures towards Mack.

Once it was in her hands she started trying to pry it under the floor board. The others soon realized what she was doing and offered their assistance.

Once they got the hatch open the group of survivors were greeted with a small set a stairs that led to a dark room.

Murphy selfishly decided to push himself to the front so he could get first pickings if there was any food down there.

Before Murphy could walk down the stairs the Lieutenant stuck her arm out so he couldn't pass through.
"I think I see something down there back up"  she warned

As the figure below them started walking towards the stairs 10k raises his gun

"Wait don't shoot. I-I'm human pls don't shoot"

The voice startled all of them. They weren't expecting any people to be there seeing as they were basically in the middle of nowhere.

The figure walked towards them and was revealed under the harsh glare of 10ks flashlight. It was a young girl no older then 18 with her hands up.

"I mean you no harm can I please come up. It stinks down here" the girl asked hoping the people aiming guns at her where somewhat friendly.

Warren, Murphy, and 10k stepped back so the girl could come up.  As she was walking up Addy, Mack, and doc where finally able to see the mysterious girl.

Once doc seen who she was he was immediately hit with a wave of emotions. He never thought he would see her again.

The girl had stepped aside to examine the people in front of her.  The people were doing the same to her. Any other time she would've tried to figure out what these people were thinking about her but she didn't care. She was coming to the same realization that doc was.

"Doc?"
"KC is that really you"

At this confirmation she rushed into the mans arms. Neither of them believing what was happening could be real

"Y-you're alive how? Am I in a dream? I can't believe you're alive" doc asked while still holding onto her tightly.
" I could say the same to you. I missed you so much!" The girl was overjoyed.

" hey uh sorry to break up this reunion doc but who is she?" Warren asked looking at the two of them quizzically.

"Oh right right I'm sorry. KC this is everybody. Everybody this is KC, my niece."

a/n: and with that i end my first chapter of "puppy's and kittens". I hope you all enjoyed it pls feel free to leave constructive criticism. I know my writing could use a lil work.

Sorry not much happens in this chapter i just wanted to get the whole doc meeting up with KC and stuff out of the way
