Seb had been waiting nearly five months to hear back from American Musical and Dramatic Academy, so naturally the decisions were released on closing night of the spring musical. (It was Into the Woods, and Seb, of course, had played Jack.) Him and Carlos had gotten the notification backstage but had promised each other they would look together as soon as they got home. The tears had been spilled and the Denny's consumed, so it was finally time.

They opened email on their desktop and the screen flipped to 1:58pm. "Are you ready?" Seb asked their boyfriend.

"Yes," Carlos sighed through the phone. Carlos could see him sprawled out on his double bed, the call on speaker and the email opened in another tab.

"Okay...." Seb turned on speaker and set his phone on the desk. "3, 2, 1...."
He clicked the link, the password already saved from the thousands of times he had pre-checked. The screen refreshed and several paragraphs of text appeared.

Dear Mx. Matthew-Smith,
we are pleased to offer you a place at AMDA for the 2022/2023 school year.....

"I got in!" Seb squealed, unable to contain themself. His boyfriend didn't join, however. "Carlos?"

The silence spoke volumes.

"I got waitlisted."

Seb's enthusiasm burst like a bubble.

"Hey... that means there's still a chance?" they tried, ever optimistic.

"Yeah," the choreographer huffed. "But I'm not surprised I didn't get in"

"Carlos-"

"It's okay, there's still NYU."

They had both gotten into their second choice school about three weeks ago, at the beginning of the month.

"Yeah, I can just go there, and then we'll be together." NYU was still a great school after all, and they'd still be at the heart of Broadway.

"No, no, Seb," Carlos insisted. "You deserve to go to AMDA. I would never forgive myself if you turned down this opportunity for me."

"Carlos-" It seemed to be the only word Seb could remember.

"We'll both in the city, like we planned, okay?"

"Okay," the blonde relented. It wasn't what he had been envisioning at all, but it was something. "I love you." It wasn't lost on them how selfless Carlos was.

"Te amo," Seb's boyfriend grinned, and it still made their heart flutter. "Try to get some sleep. It's late."

"Goodnight Los."

"Goodnight Sebby."

The call ended, exiting to Seb's lockscreen of the two of them. Their heart broke again. There was one thing he needed to do before he turned off his computer.

**************

The next day was Sunday, which usually meant chores in the morning and hanging out with Carlos in the afternoon. Today, though, the dark haired boy wasn't responding.

Seb tried to convive himself that he was still sleeping. They had gone to bed quite late, after all. It became increasingly apparent however as the day went on that Carlos was avoiding them. He opened his phone to text them but was surprised to find another email in his notifications.

Dear Mx. Matthew-Smith,
We understand your concerns....

Wait what?

Frantically, Seb opened their sent mail.
