"Why are you still single?"
It's the nth time he's been asked this question today and, as usual, he would just shrug it off and flash his smile. He looked around the crowd and scanned the four guys he's been eyeing the whole night while he was sipping on his fourth gin and soda and made mental notes on which one he can actually go out with after this night.Indian guy who was wearing his favorite Zara perfume, wearing a floral shirt and khaki shorts, and was obviously on his 10th beer with all the silly dancing with his girl friends by the pool. Hmmm. Got his number but didn't seem like a good conversationalist. British guy who arrived in a suit and tie but now just dressed down in his pink shirt, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, biceps bulging while he was playing beer pong. Kept talking about himself, his work, his problems, blah blah blah. Wouldn't mind ripping that shirt off but no thanks. Singaporean guy wading in the pool with his pink swim shorts and tight torso, can actually pass off as a model if not for his weird hair that's neither a crew cut or a faux-hawk. Very good listener and I can talk about anything with him. He didn't get my number though. Filipino guy who's munching on some Cheetos with a beer while consoling some girl who's going through a hard break-up. Such a genuinely nice guy and easiest to talk to. We got each other's number and we live in the same area. Has a live-in partner. F*ck.
"Why are you still single?"
He was about to snap at this person who asked him again but when he looked around, no one was talking to him. Everyone was minding their own business, drinking the night away. He realized he was talking to himself. And when he looked around again, all the four guys have become a blur, all busy having fun with everyone. He felt a strong urge to cry so he took a deep breath and closed his eyes while sipping his drink. A tear silently fell and he didn't bother wiping it away. You know you're worth it. Just wait for it. He opened his eyes and took another deep breath before walking towards the bar to get another drink.
