Lost and Found

Chapter 1

                The council finally found and agreed on a pack that would be able to protect us, the Bane pack. As luck would have it, Alpha Shaun Bane, his Luna, and most of the pack agreed to put their lives in danger for us. There is still some that would rather not lose family or a friend to protect us, but I can’t blame them. I wouldn’t want to have complete strangers coming into my family, pack, or territory that could and would eventually lead to someone I love and care about being harmed or killed. I don’t expect all to be warm and welcoming when we arrive.  

        We are on out way to Aspen Colorado from Millinocket Maine. It has been the longest drive we’ve ever been on.  Both Emily and I are ready to get out and stretch out legs. Well, stretch and to just get out of the car and away from Gage and his bad taste in music.  Gage is our Guardian; a Guardian is someone that works with and for the council. They go on missions to help save people like Emily and I and to destroy the monsters like Levi and his minions that took us and did unimaginable things.   Gage normally wouldn’t be the one to deliver us to our new home, but he’s the only person Emily and I trust and feel safe with. He’s the one that stayed with us the whole time. From when they found us, to the doctors checking us over, and going in front of the council. He’s also the one that found and talk to Alpha Shaun. It’s the pack he was in before he joined the council and their cause.

     My name is Rowan. I’ve just turned 16, I think. I’m not totally sure when my birthday is, but I believe it was at the end of October. I have long black hair and bi-colored eyes. My left is violet and my right is green. My complexion is right now is very pale, I’ve not been outside in the sun for years. On my lower back I have a very strange mark. It’s been there for as long as I can remember, even before I was taken so I guess it’s some kind of strange birthmark.  It’s shaped like a trinity symbol but each ring is a different shade.  Emily, the little girl I came to think of as my sister is 9 years old. She is able to remember her birthday. It’s on October 31. She has light blonde hair; it almost looks white in the sun. Her eyes are bi-colored as well. Her left eye is a very light blue; it’s hard to distinguish the difference between the opaque part of the eye and the iris. Her right eye is a honey brown color.

       After everything we’ve been through we have both changed. I don’t trust blindly any more.  I will be the first one to jump up and protect the people I care about. I don’t care what happens to me, as long as the people I care about are alright and taken care of. When needed, I think it’s best to attacked first and ask questions later. Emily after what she’s seen me go through she has became withdrawn. She stays close to me at all times now. We can’t be more then 10-15 feet apart before with both go into panic attacks. Our wolf halves have bonded, the council thinks that it’s like a familiar bond. With a bond like that it’s common that we don’t want to be far apart after something traumatic happens to one of us , but usually it goes away after our wolf halves see that they are okay. Emily and I’s wolves don’t feel content unless we are close together at all times.

         “We’re almost there guys,” Gage told us. We’ve been driving for about 33 hours straight. Gage didn’t want to stop any where just in case Levi knew we were on the move, and tried to get us back. Emily and I shared a look. We are both very nervous about being around this new pack. “You promise you won’t leave us alone Gage?” I asked. Like I said I don’t trust blindly any more. Just because they agreed to take us in and protect us does not mean they mean well. They could be working with Levi or have their own agenda.

      “I told you before Rowan, I’m not going anywhere. I will be within 10 feet of both of you at all times. Alpha Shaun assured me that Clara made up a room big enough for all three of us. For as long as it takes for you to feel safe here I’m not going anywhere,” Gage told me as we came to a stop. Gage got out of the car to greet who I’m guessing is Alpha Shaun and Luna Clara of the Bane pack. Emily and I stayed in the car watching him interact and get reacquainted with his old Alphas.

       Gage came and opened the back car door. “Come on guys, it’s time to meet Alpha Shaun and Luna Cla,” “nonsense Gage it’s just Clara, you should know how much I hate when I’m addressed so formally,” Gage was interrupted by a serious Luna Clara, but you could see the humor dancing in her eyes. Gage just rolled his eyes which made a small smile twitch on my lips. I got out of the car slowly while keeping my eyes on the surrounding and area and the people here. Emily got out right behind me, keeping a firm grip on the back of my t-shirt.

            “Hello,” I greeted them while keeping close to Gage.”Hi sweetie. How about we all head inside and get to know one another over a cup of hot chocolate,” Clara said. “I think that is a great idea love. I would like to catch up with Gage. Then we can get them situated in their room for tonight, “Alpha agreed. We all headed inside. Once we went through the door I had to stop and just appreciate the beauty of their home. It was beautiful as in you would be afraid to touch something because you might leave dirt somewhere, but beautiful as in, lived in. Homey, I guess you could say. Pictures lined the walls of family and friends they knew and cared about, drawings and craft the little children made, you could just see how much care and love these people felt and they weren’t afraid to show it. It’s heartwarming and scary to me all at once. “Come on Ro, I told you this pack wasn’t like the others,” I looked at Gage.”I know what you said, but hearing it and seeing it is completely different,” I told him. I followed him into the kitchen with Emily trailing behind me. She seemed to be more at ease after our discovery. She didn’t look like she was ready to bolt at any second any more.

          We all took seats while Clara starting fixing hot chocolate for us all. Alpha asked, “How old are both of you Rowan?” I looked to Gage who shook his head yes to answer him truthfully.” Alpha I’m pretty sure I just turned 16 and Emily just turned 9.”” What about family for either of you. Why did you not go home to them,” Alpha asked. “I was taken when I was six Alpha. Ten years I have been put through hell. Where was my family when I needed them?” I gave him a moment to digest that.” They were busy having more children and acting like I didn’t exist. They didn’t care enough to look for me and to take the time to mourn me if I died. I have four brothers and four sisters that don’t even know that they have an older sister. I was different from everyone since I was born. My dad was the only person I can ever remember clearly because he was the only one that wanted to spend time with me. My father knows that I am alive and well, and that I do NOT want to give the rest of them the pleasure of ever seeing me again. None of them seemed to care so they don’t deserve to know I’m alive and that I survived all those years,” I told both Alpha and Luna, who stopped what she was doing to watch me.

           It was quiet while Luna finished making the hot chocolate. Once she set our cups in front of us I said,” Emily’s family wasn’t part of a pack when they took her. When Levi came, he killed them so she only has me.”Alpha thought about everything while we drank our hot chocolate. Only when we finished did he say,” what if they want you back?” I thought that through because by our law you have to have permission from the Alpha to leave our packs, otherwise the pack bond you have with them won’t be cut.” I don’t think Alpha Charlie can do anything now. He didn’t give me permission to leave, but Levi did something that broke the pack bond completely. I have no bonds with them and they shouldn’t care about me not being with them anyways. I told the council about what I found out, when they asked me if I wanted to go back to my old pack. They let me choose so they won’t force me to go back. If I can trust you and those of your pack I will be loyal to this pack and only this pack. You’re taking a chance and so is your pack to keep us safe. I won’t give you a reason to think it was a mistake,” I told him.

           Gage cleared his throat and said,” is there any way we can continue this conversation tomorrow morning? After all that driving I would like to get a shower and some shut eye.”” Of course, I should have thought about that. Come I will show you the room I set up for you guys, “Luna said.” When you’re done with breakfast tomorrow, you three please come to my office to we can finish this discussion,” Alpha said. Gage nodded his head as we followed Luna to our room.

         Clara opened the door so we could go in.”This is the best I could come up that would make you two feel as safe as possible. The window leads to the common area. No one can get in there unless they go through the house first. You have your own bathroom as well, with only a small window for air to come in, “Clara trailed off.”Thank you,” we all said to her. We all took turns taking our showers after she left. After we all showered we laid down. Gage on the bed closer to the door with me and Emily on the one closer to the window.
