Ch. 2

The Encounter

I opened my eyes.
I must've fallen asleep.. ridiculous. I stared at my unfinished paperwork and furrowed my brows.

"Barbatos of Mondstadt.. Since when has there been so much work?" I sighed.

I decided I would go out on a walk, I had to keep my frame in shape after all. I got up from my seat.

"Maids, I'm going for a stroll. I will be back by daybreak."
"Understood, Master Diluc. Bathing and meals will be prepared at your arrival."

I headed to Starsnatch Cliff. I felt that maybe, watching the companionship of seagulls soaring and calling out to each other would make me feel better. Less lonely.

I sat down, legs crossed near the edge. That tangy smell of the ocean burned my nose.

Well, aren't I quite the foolish one. To want to fall in love.. Me of all people?

As I was muttering and mumbling to myself I caught a glimpse of something in the corner of my eye. What was that? It seemed to shine, like a silver spoon but it was fast. I lost sight of it quickly.

Maybe I was just seeing things. Hopefully some grape juice would distract me of some troubles. It would be nice to see my employees, such as Charles again.

"I guess I better get to the tavern quickly. The sun is setting.." I pondered.

Everything in Mondstadt was the same as usual, except for the lousy decorations of the windblume festival. Flowers, everywhere... It only reminded me how frustrated I was.

"Hello, Charles. It's been a while", I greeted him as I walked towards the counter and took a seat.
"Hello Mr. Diluc! You're right, it certainly has been quite the time." Charles chuckled.
He already seemed to be pouring a glass of grape juice for me. I did not feel the need to ask.

In the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of a new face.
"Charles, who is that blue man? He looks quite... bizarre." I whispered.
"Oh, that guy? When he walked in, he told me his name was M. Just M. Not the average fellow for sure though", Charles laughed.

The blue man seemed to notice. He looked over at us, in response, I looked back. He was odd. His appearance was nothing of that from Teyvat, at least.

What if he came from the abyss? Should I be reporting this to Jean?
