you're scared of storms

You jumped when you heard yet another clap of thunder outside the window. This one was much louder, much more forceful than the others; so hard that it shook the house when it rumbled. You could hear the rain pouring on the roof as it came down harder and harder, and every once in a while, you'd see a flash of lightning outside the window.

You tried to ignore it. You tried your hardest to curl up and fall asleep. You tried to focus on the soft breaths that were falling from your girlfriend's lips beside you. You even tried to match your breathing to hers, thinking it was so soft and so steady that you'd relax and be asleep before you knew it.

But you couldn't sleep. Not when this storm was taking place. It's already cut off the power, though it should be restored any moment now. But it meant that you couldn't really distract yourself from your fears. You couldn't turn on the tv and flip through the channels until you stumbled upon the office, which always makes you giggle enough that your worries fade away.

And you didn't want to disturb Ashley. Not when she's finally getting some quality sleep after working so hard for the last few days. She's barely slept, sacrificing sleep to finish up important projects.

You decided to lay still, hoping that the storm would be over soon, or that you could turn on something sometime soon. Because even if you can't sleep, it would surely be nice to have something on to keep you entertained and make you happy.

But the storm wasn't nearly done yet, and you realized that when the thunder crashed once more. You gasped in shock and brought the blanket over your head, a whimper falling from your lips as you tried to squeeze your eyes shut and take deep breaths.

Suddenly, the blanket was pulled away and you yelped before relaxing when Ashley stared back at you and placed her hand on your shoulder.

"It's okay. It's only me, lovely."

You exhaled heavily and pulled her close, hugging her as tight as you possibly could without hurting her.

"The storm scaring you?"

You nodded quickly and closed your eyes with a shaky sigh as she brushed a lock of hair behind your ear and then caressed your cheek.

"I know it's scary, but you're safe with me. We're inside, sheltered away from it. Nothing is gonna happen to you. Everything will be just fine."

"But-"

"No," she interrupted, finger falling over your lips before she smiled a little. "No but's. I know you're scared of storms, but you know you're safe with me, right?"

"Yeah."

"Good." She whispered. "Tell me what I can do to make you feel better."

"Could you cuddle me?"

"Happily." She said before she laid back and spooned you from behind. Her legs tangled with yours, her hand falling to your side where she brushed her fingertips along your skin ever so softly. "Anything else?"

"Just talk to me. Your voice calms me down."

"What do you want me to talk about?" She asked curiously.

"Anything. Tell me about your new projects or a funny story you have from a set. Or just tell me a story. Any story. Just talk to me. It comforts me."

She nodded and thought for a moment before she started to tell you about something funny that took place on the set of pretty little liars a few years back. Those memories still live in her mind, moments she'll never forget, and she tells you about them often. But she keeps gems like these to herself, for moments like this; when you need a little cheering up and a little comfort.

So she spoke softly in her ear and brushed her fingers along your skin delicately. She watched your breathing, watching your chest rise and fall steadily just a few minutes later; when you had fallen asleep.

"I love you," Sher whispered. "If you need anything, I'm here. Nothing can ever hurt you when I'm here to hold you. I promise." She said before falling asleep, hoping you were comforted enough to get some good rest now.
