Flashback to when Batman first took him in
Jason had been trying to take the tiers off of the Batmobile when he was caught in the act; he had expected to get the beat down of his life. Instead he found his scrawny butt being tossed into the passenger seat while Batman somehow rigged the vehicle up so that the tiers could go back on easily.
Jason figured it was a one way trip to juvie for him, or at the very least the police department.
He was shocked when Batman started up the car and drove towards an underground parkade and flipped a switch on the dash causing a secret door to open and drove through it, they continued on through some kind of tunnel until they entered into what was no doubt Batman's lair.
"Are ya goin' to kill me and hide the body down here so no one can find me? Got news for ya, no one'd be lookin' anyway." Jason said as he slumped down in the seat.
Batman said nothing as he got out of the car and headed over to a huge computer and entered in some sort of command.
Upon realising that his death wasn't imminent Jason decided to climb out of the Batmobile and look around, though he didn't go far.
They were in some sort of cave and the place was huge! He heard something and looked up to see tons of bats towards the ceiling, of course Batman would have bats... before he could really inspect much else of the place there was the sound of automatic doors opening and he turned to see an elevator and someone stepping out.
"Hey B, you're back early did something happen on patrol?"
Jason felt his jaw drop as a teenage boy probably not much older than him hobbled out of the elevator on crutches, his leg clearly broken. He wasn't sure what floored him more, the fact that this kid could easily stroll into the Big Bat Bat's lair like it was nothing and strike up a conversation like old chums or the fact that he had to be looking at Robin the boy wonder without his mask and he was someone he recognised on sight. Okay so the second was more shocking because holy mother that was Dick Grayson!
He must have made some sort of sound because suddenly Dick turned his head and noticed him for the first time.
"Oh."
Oh? That's all he had to say? OH?! Had Jason been talking he'd have been sputtering by now.
"He was in crime alley."
"Doing what?"
"Trying to take the wheels off the Batmobile."
Trying? There was no trying, he'd nearly succeeded; he only had one left!
Before he could voice his outrage though his thoughts were cut short by Dick's sudden cackle causing Jason to look at him with a raised brow; He was laughing? And weirder yet, Batman didn't seem mad.
Dick turned towards Jason and hobbled towards him to get a better look. He was still grinning as he approached. "Man you've got some guts don't you?" Dick said as he stopped in front of Jason.
"You're Robin." Was Jason's oh so smart reply.
Dick laughed again. "We've got a real detective here B. So can he stay?"
Batman was now sitting at the huge computer going over some sort of file it seemed, he didn't even bother to look up as he responded. "He has nowhere else to go."
Wait, what?
Just then the elevator doors opened again and this time an older man came out carrying a tray with food and drinks on it.
What was happening here?
"So you got a name?" Dick asked.
"Uh Jason." He was still confused so he figured no one would blame him for being a little slow.
"Well Jay, come on and have a seat with me, Alfred makes awesome hot chocolate, also I'm sure you could use a little something to eat."
As if to prove his point Jason's stomach picked that moment to let out a loud growl.
Alfred it would seem was already setting up an eating area on a table nearby.
"How?"
"B must have sent up a message to the kitchen when he got here to let Alfred know. One of Alfred's rules is no one goes hungry."
"Quite right Master Dick, now please have a seat both of you and eat. Its late and I'm sure this young man could use something nutritious."
Nutritious? Jason was lucky if whatever he put in his body on a regular basis was safe for human consumption. Figuring it was pointless to point that little tidbit out he did as directed and sat down. Dick followed suit leaning his crutches next to him and reaching for the steaming mug placed before him. He raised it up and saluted Jason with it.
"Try it, trust me."
What the hell, why not? So Jason lifted up his own mug and after blowing on it to avoid burning his mouth he took a tentative sip and nearly moaned, sure he'd had hot chocolate at some point in his life but never like this. He'd have guzzled it all down if he could but one, he didn't want to burn his mouth or throat, and two he really wanted to savor the drink.
"So what's your story?"
Jason looked up at Dick with a raised brow.
"Why where you in Crime alley trying to steal the wheels from the Batmobile of all things?" Dick clarified and from the twitching of his lips and the glint in his eyes Jason knew he was trying not to burst out laughing.
Jason shrugged. "Didn't know it was the Batmobile. Just saw a sweet ride and figured the wheels would be worth something so I tried to take them. Got three before I was caught." He couldn't help the way he kind off puffed out his chest at the last part like he was proud, because honestly? He'd managed to jack three out of four of the wheels from the Batmobile!
Dick did let out a slight chuckle this time. "I like him B."
