Do you ever just look in the mirror and think, who is this person looking back at me?

The shadows cast upon my face act as a mask of which no one can ever break. This facade I have been putting on for the last five years presents a outgoing friendly sole. If only they knew the truth.

Frowning I walk away from the mirror to get ready for the day ahead.

Putting on my usual attire of jeans and an over sized jumper. I put my hair in a quick messy bun and apply minimal make-up. Enough to make me look alive.

'Sam you have five minutes to get down stairs before I leave with out you.'

I rush down stairs, making a coffee and grabbing a piece of toast, I race outside and jump in the car.

You see living in a small town has its ups and downs. You have the advantage of little sanctuaries surrounding you providing an escape from the world. Places where it's just you, the environment and your music, no problems, no worries.

You also have to rely on a ride to the station because you can risk taking the bus which is never on time.

I rush to the car to see mum sitting there tapping the steering wheel impatiently.

'I know you like leaving things to the last minute but all your doing is putting stress on yourself. Just start getting ready earlier, its not that hard. ' scolding me like she does every morning.

'Sorry mum, although in my defence you said be ready by eight and its eight soooo?' Rolling her eyes she takes off.

'So you excited to check out some new places today? I hope you noted down all of those great little apartments we found last night. Especially the one right next to campus, we both know you can afford city parking' she glances at me laughing at her own little joke. Look in my defence no one can, doing that every day is ridiculous.

'Yep, I am meeting up with the landlord at 12. Although I have also found some other places near by which look interesting so we will see.'

'Ok, just keep me updated, I will sneakily google the places you find while I'm at work. Rod doesn't even know what I do, he just knows I'm an asset so I can get away with a little browsing' laughing at her own joke mum pulls up to the station pushing me out if the car so she doesn't hold up traffic.

I have always wanted to live on my own, my love of independence has made me save since I was fifteen. Although that all changed five years ago. After the incident I couldn't dare leave my mother all by herself. She's strong, brave and hard working but no one can brave something like that on their own.

Now in my fourth year of university I have no choice. With placement and an overload of university work I just couldn't do the five hour commute any more.

Tucking some loose blonde stands behind my ear I place my head phones in. Playing some classic 'All summer long by kid rock I walk to the station having no idea that today would be the first day that the shadows on my face would start to fade away.
