I started work at The Paperback Pineapple because I liked that phrase on their sign, 'stranger things are happening.' And I needed money. Paddleboarding is an expensive sport. I started that day, the day I met her. She walked in like she knew what she was doing and ordered without looking at me. She sat at a blue chair and, instead of taking out her phone like all the other girls, she began to read. I couldn't help but watch her. She wasn't pretty. She's not a pretty girl. She's striking, with her hair the colour of honey and her emerald eyes. She's like a waterfall, and I am in awe of her beauty, her strength. Her thousand bright blinks, her hundred curtains of half-smiles cascaded in a sheet of warmth. Waterfalls weren't created by nature to be pretty.
Nature wanted humans to see something, and be stunned by its infiniteness.
