Inside the tunnel, Kris hit the wall as the shadow let him go avoiding Wang Yong's bullet. Shan quickly stepped between the creature and Kris his sword raised. "Get back through the door." Wang Yong called out to Kris. Quickly getting up Kris turned his back to the whole situation thinking that Shan had the creature under control. With full speed, he was running back toward the door. Suddenly he felt a breeze on his neck without thinking he turned around his gun raised but before he could fire at the shadow it had already reached out with clawed hands to grab Kris.
The gunshot echoed through the tunnel the sword was drawing sparks as it moved along the wall of the tunnel and Wang Yong fell down. This all happened in the exact same second. Kris had fired at the shadow while Shan had raised his sword lowering it to cut the creature's hand and Wang Yong had jumped in front of Kris to save him. Without hesitation, Shan grabbed Wang Yong and Kris pulling them through the door. The same second Li Jun closed the stone door.
Zhen Wei still stood there frozen when he saw Kris reappear, he could only fall down, his knees giving in. Before he hit the ground, Shan caught him leading him to a small rock formation helping him sit down. Kris was helping Wang Yong sit down and old man Lao and Li Jun took a look at his injured back. The injuries were bad but he was still alive. Lucky for Wang Yong, Shan had reacted quickly and cut off the creature's hand before it could kill Wang Yong. Taking in a few deep breaths Zhen Wei finally calmed down.
They were safe for now and he couldn't just sit here shaking. As he was looking up, he saw Kris come over to him with a smug smile. "Look at you Wei all shaking. Looks like this is a little too much adventure for you." He was mocking Zhen Wei since the other had mocked him before about his wish for adventure. "You freaking disappeared right in front of my eyes grabbed by some creature." Zhen Wei finally found some of his strength again standing up to push back against Kris. "You put yourself in danger. You stood in that door waiting for something to happen. You got grabbed by some creature and you disappeared into that dark tunnel. How the hell should I know you aren't dead how should I know you are ok? You disappeared into the darkness. Just like that. What would I tell your parents? That I couldn't look after you? What would I do without my best friend? You... Don't ever do anything like that again or I will skin you myself."
Zhen Wei got louder with every word he was saying all the adrenaline and tension pended up in his body was finally realising as he scolded Kris. With his last words, he pushed his finger against Kris's shoulder. Only when Shan grabbed his shoulder did he step back lowering his head. "I'm sorry." He whispered. Kris stood there completely dumbfounded he never had seen his friend get angry with him like that ever. Zhen Wei was sarcastic, mocking and cold sometimes but he was always controlled and calm never did he lose his temper like that.
"Wei, shit, I'm sorry I didn't think before acting I will be more careful." He said looking at the other who was now standing a few steps back slightly holding on to Shan's arm as if it was the one thing holding him back from getting angry again. Zhen Wei let out a deep sigh finally looking like he calmed down letting go of Shan he walked past Kris over to Wang Yong. "Thank you for protecting Kris." He simply said before sitting down next to Wang Yong taking out his first aid kit starting to clean up the wound together with Li Jun.
Kris stood where he had been standing his head down feeling a little guilty. He had never considered Zhen Wei's thoughts. No matter how dangerous the situation he had always just run in head first fists up. And Zhen Wei had always been there picking him back up protecting his back. They were close friends since they could remember since even before Zhen Wei's family died. Even since then Kris had been like this always forward never looking left or right and he never had worried because Zhen Wei had been there to pick up the pieces.
But today was different. He understood Zhen Wei's worry a little more after the other exploded on him like that. Zhen Wei had lost his parent when he was young. They had left for a short business trip and never returned. Car accident. After that Zhen Wei was put into foster care until his current family adopted him. Kris was never able to understand what it must feel like to not have parents from one day to the next but listening to what Zhen Wei had said he finally grabbed a small glimpse of that feeling. "I'm sorry." He whispered.
