Second Person POV
Just as you were about to throw a pinecone into the pile of leaves, you hear a voice whisper yell towards you, "Hey! Oi!"
You turn your head towards the approaching figure, pinecone in hands. The boy looked around the same age as you, if not a bit older. He wore a paper bag on his head along with a tattered trench coat. He was skinny - too skinny. But that in this world of nightmares, it was miracle he was alive at all.
Then again, the same could be said about you.
As the boy neared, you couldn't help but feel nervous when you noticed that his eyes were completely shadowed by the paper bag, leaving two inky abysses in their place.
You stand still with an assessing look, wondering if the boy was a threat. Your information gathering is interrupted by the boy, who introduces himself as Mono. As he does so, he holds his hand out expectantly. You are hesitant to reciprocate the gesture, so instead you stare at it. Mono does not seem fazed by the reluctance, but you can tell he is disappointed by the way his shoulders slump.
Unfortunately, you have always been soft hearted. So, while withholding a small sigh, you set the pinecone you are holding down and grab Monos' hand, "Y/N L/N."
He looks surprised that you have a last name, especially since most children don't remember much of anything about their families. Most don't even remember their given name. Maybe you should stop using your real names.
In the passing moments, you realize that you have not let go of Monos' hand yet. Flustered, you yank your hand away before picking up another pinecone. Mono gives you a look of understanding, copying your action.
The two of you throw the pinecones, triggering two traps. Eventually, by the third leaf pile, you and Mono have a system figured out: you would gather the pinecones, and Mono would throw them.
Twenty minutes later, you can see your destination: the Hunters house. You were grateful for Monos help, as getting there would have taken significantly longer without it.
...Maybe it wouldn't be so bad having a partner again.
