Chapter 2: The Element of Trust: Trusting Someone Again part 1

"Ojiisan!!" The news just came in. Mother is sick, I want to see her.

"Kyoko, what are you doing here?"

"Ojiisan, I want to see mother!"

"Not now, Kyoko." Grandfather directly responded. He looked in my direction for a minute or two and brought it back to the hospital door where mother is. By the looks of it, Ojiisan is waiting for someone to come out of the door. To keep my legs from getting too tired, I went to the seats behind me and sat down. Silence fills the hallways, with the exception of the sound of restless footsteps from Ojiisan... Of course, I, too, was anxious, though I never actually got to spend too much time with her, she's still my mother and my family.

"Are you a part of Mrs. Kirigiri's family?" A doctor came out.

"Yes, I am her father-in-law."

"May I speak to you?"

"Of course. Kyoko, wait for your father to come out. I will discuss your mother's condition with Dr. Izumi for a moment."

I shook my head. He clearly doesn't want me to learn about her condition. Ojiisan and Dr. Izumi went to the office, is mother's condition that serious?

*Ring, Ring, Ring!!*

A cellphone behind me was ringing, it was Ojiisan's. And the one calling was father. I quickly answered the call.

"OTŌSAN!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO HER?!?!"

Yikes, that was noisy. Father sounds mad.

"Father? It's me, Kyoko."

"Kyoko? What are you doing there? You should be at home."

"I wish to see her!"

"Not until I speak to your grandfather."

I looked around the hallways, hoping to find him. But he wasn't there.

"Where is your grandfather anyway?"

"He's with the docto-"

In a flash, grandfather snatched the phone out of my hand with an irritated expression.

"Kyoko, I will stay here to take care of your mother. I'll send the driver to come to pick you up."

"BUT! I WANT TO SEE HER!"

"Kyoko, perhaps tomorrow, alright? Now go home, I need to speak with your father."

Sighing in dissatisfaction, I walked out of the hospital. I just hope mother will be fine.

"Ms. Kyoko, I'm here to take you home."

"Yes, I heard."

The driver opened the door and I stepped inside. He closed the door and went to the front seat. As the engines began, I let my head leaning against the car window. Thinking about mother, and why grandfather is acting so cautious. It doesn't make any sense! Why won't they let me see her?!? What are they hiding? Is father going to leave the family again? Will mother be okay?
