Chapter 9: iRevealthepast (updated spelling and grammar)
Original A/N: This chapter really digs down deep into Marissa's past and I really think that's important, it tells a lot about who she was and how she came to be "Crazy." Let me know what y'all think!
MARRISAS POV:
"Then why get divorced?"
They regarded me with disbelief, and truth be told, I couldn't blame them. "Mom, Sam is 17 and I'm 18! Did you seriously just say that or am I imagining things?" Freddie exclaimed.
"Listen, Fredward, I tied the knot with your dad at 18 because I thought he loved me and all that romantic nonsense. Look at me now! Single, overprotective, and certifiably nuts. But seeing how much you adore that sweet, rebellious girl, and how she clearly feels the same about you, why not stick with it? The apartment next to ours is empty and even has access to the fire escape," I winked, "I'll talk to Lewbert about the rent and we can figure something out, but first, let's head to the doctor, get some tests done to make sure there are no... unexpected surprises... and figure out what really went down in the last 48 hours." Their gazes remained fixed on me, as if Ashton Kutcher might pop out any moment and shout, "You've just been Punk'd!" I took a deep breath and continued, "You two! Come on! You deserve happiness and love. You've both endured enough heartache from your families; there's no need for it to continue. I'm just putting my thoughts out there—I'm not saying you should stay married if you have doubts, we can discuss it. But I never thought I'd say this to you, Freddie... The fact that you're willing to fight for this blonde-headed demon, as you affectionately call her, speaks volumes about your character and your love for her. Now, be honest: would you ever want to be in this situation with Carly, or are you glad it's Samantha instead?" I locked eyes with him, knowing exactly where this conversation was headed. Sam's eyes widened, and instinctively, Freddie wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer.
"Mom, this is insane," he sighed.
"Answer the question, Freddie," I said with a smile.
"I'm definitely glad it's with Sam! If it were Carly, I'd be filing for divorce faster than you can say fragmentation. Which is..."
"Where storage space is inefficiently used, reducing capacity or performance, and often both," she replied mechanically, then gasped and covered her mouth in shock. Her cheeks flushed crimson as she avoided his gaze.
"Samantha Joy Puckett-Benson, Did you just..." he began, but Sam quickly cut him off.
"Don't even think about it," she said firmly, then turned back to me. Yet, my son kept staring at her, wearing a curious expression. What was that phrase he always mumbled in his sleep? "If you get a little more normal"? I couldn't help but suppress a smile. "Samantha? How do you feel? Are you relieved waking up married to my Freddie, or would you have preferred it to be that Brad boy?" I inquired.
"Um... Mrs. Benson, I don't think this, I mean... ugh! Yes, I'm happy it was Freddie and not Brad. Can we backtrack a bit...? Um, what surprises?" she asked, her fingers fidgeting nervously.
"Well, Samantha...if you guys, you know, did what normal couples do on their honeymoon... without protection.... Well..." I started,
"Oh, Mom, please! Not now, JESUS!" Freddie said embarrassed.
"I... didn't think... of that... oh... my god... what if..." She nervously bit her thumbnail, panic seizing her.
"Sweetie, it's alright. Let's sit down and talk for a moment," I reassured her, gently rubbing her back.
