What is the difference between madness and anger?

Some may say there is no difference between these two other than its spell and pronunciation, and some may say these two emotions are different. With anger, you are ready to forget, but not forgive. Anger is a ticking time bomb that just wait for the right time to explode its bottled up emotions towards someone or something that feeds it. It can easily be forgotten with just a snap of a finger.

Yet with madness, it's a slow build up of negative emotions. Madness doesn't explode, no. Like a silent creature walking in the night, it lingers at the back of someone's mind, taking its time to grow big, prey on its host, and manipulate the away from everyone whom they used to be fond with. Long before its host realize its existence, they don't have anywhere else to go. What they will only see is a reminder of what they may do under the influence of their own mind, a different person looking back at them in horror as they stare into the mirror, looking for someone that doesn't exist anymore.

Then, the color of red dragging them into a spiral of insanity, forcing its host into an agonizing metamorphosis.

Claris, a poor woman who finds herself sitting on her own father's desk, could not fathom what she's looking at. Earlier that month, she was just about to pass the 283rd Hunter's exam as she became one of the leading candidates to receive a Hunter's License this year. But due to an unfortunate news that she received from one of her intel, she has to reluctantly back off from the exam to rush back to where her father is.

As soon as she arrived in the hospital, tears almost ran down her eyes as she stared at his poor body fighting for his life as he was tended meticulously by the nurses assigned on his case. His once aging skin has now been completely covered with bandage as she was informed that his body was almost burnt off from the airship accident that he was in. His body seems so paralyzed and shocked from the experience that the hospital has to use a tube to keep oxygen regulated inside his body. The doctors has told her that her father is in the state of coma right now, and there are no guarantees that he may wake up ever again.

It's them, a voice told her at the back of her mind.

Her hands shook as they clenched onto a compilation of papers, she could still feel the bruise that her step mother's wooden fan had left on her skin when she confronted her at the hospital, but the pain it caused has long disappeared along with all the logical thinking she has left.

She could almost laugh to herself as she remembered the words seething of anger spoken by her step-mother, Elizabeth, lingered in her mind.

"You useless piece of shit. . . All you have to do is protect your father and be by his side, Claris. Now look at what you've done, prancing around and playing this. . . hunter game of yours," were the insulting words that Mother Elizabeth spat at her before her relatives dragged her out of the hospital to avoid the pending chaos between the two.

She may be right, Claris could have prevented this accident from happening. She could have made herself not take the Hunter's Exam if she knew this would happen, she could have sent someone to watch over her father who is clearly busy with attending multiple business trips to make sure that all of his plans and projects are working well. Yet, when this kind of incident happened, her whole family has easily shoved all of the responsibilities and blames towards her when they could have done something to make sure that the head of their family is safe and sound.

Why? Why should she take the blame? Was it because she's different from them? Was it because of the image they perceived her that is far from who she really is?

Or was it because she may be not a part of Anatolia family that they see her as a nuisance or such?

She doesn't know.

She could almost laugh at herself when she was thinking about taking the full responsibility of her father's current state. Yet, Claris could almost kneel and worship whoever God there may be as soon as she found the rotting corpse of truth buried underneath the intricate web of scheme and lies conspired by her own family against her father, their own head.

As soon as she was able to sit down at her father's desk to take on his job as the head of the family while he was gone, Claris was immediately able to tell why his father had to go through this accident.

"Dad, you sure do not want to go down to your grave without exposing this disgusting family, huh," she chuckled. "Maybe I really have taken after you."

Crumpled in between her hands were the report files she received from the private investigators and information hunters that she hired to get into this case, as well as the other report files from crime hunters that her father hired prior to the accident. Fuming could not define the emotion that Claris is starting to feel from all of the info she received. She wanted to believe that her whole family is innocent, that all of these are just fabricated, and that they really have nothing to do with what happened to her father. Yet all of the data she had seems to fall perfectly into pieces, creating an intricate puzzle  made by her family to steal everything away from her and her father, including his life.

"Aahh. . . what should I do?" she sighed, leaning against the table for support, trying her best to keep her emotions from exploding.

Her hands had long dug into the perfectly polished wood and ruining what was preserved well by the estate's servants for years now. Her teeth gritted each other as she couldn't control her own bloodlust from intensifying . Every cells in her body craved for violence to release the demon growing inside of her which seems to be ready to perform a carnage if she wished to.

Kill them, is what her demon would suggest.

It's what felt right for her right now. She must take something away from them, an equivalent exchange. She wouldn't hesitate on taking away their lives too if it comes down to it.

But, morally, it's not what she should do.

She may have a desire to leave them be, but the urge to bring vengeance was stronger inside of her.  For years, they made her suffer. This family that she considered as hers made her endure all kinds of pain for years. The pain of abandonment, humiliation, rejection, and betrayal, she endured it all just so she can have a chance to form a bond with her family just for her father. Yet, in the end, all they think about are their own selfish greed.

She must make them pay back, and return all those that pain they gave her to ten folds.

Claris is already on her last straw.

Consumed by years worth of pain, Claris vowed to take her family down at all cost even if she has to go down with them as well.
