Here I am, standing at the edge of a cliff and wondering how I even got here. All I can hear is the wind moving through the trees and the waves hitting the rocks at the bottom of where I'm standing. I feel the wind moving against my body and it's almost like it wants me to jump. Just when I'm tempted to jump, I hear my mother calling my name.
"Avalyn! Wake up." I hear her calling out to me. I stumbled off the cliff, feeling gravity pulling me down to my death. I'm not screaming, I'm welcoming it. Just when I'm reaching the bottom, I look up and see a beautiful face. It's too late, I'm already falling. Just when I thought It was over, my mother pulls my comforter off of me and shakes me awake.
"Avalyn, you are late for school! Get the hell up." I hear my dreadful mother say and I sit up, rubbing my eyes; It was just a dream but it felt so real. "Make your bed and get ready, you'll have to miss Breakfast." She says as she leaves my bedroom. As tired as I am, I have no energy to tolerate her this morning so I just stumble out of my bed and walk to the bathroom to shower.
After I showered, I looked through my closet and put on this sundress along with tan flats. I combed my hair and decided to let it air dry in the car. When I'm walking downstairs, I can hear my parents talking about my ballet recital next weekend and how my father can't come because he has to work, classic dad. I yell out my goodbyes and grab my bag that has my keys in it. Then I head out the door. When I walk to my car, I see all of our elderly neighbors outside reading the newspaper and drinking their coffee, admiring from a far, I get in my car and start the engine.
I grab my aux cord and plug it into my phone, pulling up spotify and playing affection by BETWEEN FRIENDS. Some may say that my music taste doesn't match my look but they also don't know me very well. I pull out of my driveway and begin driving to school. It's not exactly a far drive just about half an hour. I usually pass the time by picking up an iced coffee from my daily hangout, Reverie Coffee Shop, but today I'm too late to grab one. It's the second week of school and I'm already going to get a tardy.
After the drive, I finally arrived at school. I grab my bag and park my car in the students' parking lot, turning off the engine. I step out of my car and begin to walk inside the school, heading straight for the front office. Once i'm there, I sign in and wait to get my tardy note for my teacher. After awhile, the principal calls me into his office.
"Miss. Jane! Good morning, please come in and meet Renee Davis. She's new here and since you are already late to class, I was thinking you could show her around for Homeroom and then take her to her next class." He explained in one breath and I sunk in my seat, looking between the both of them.
"Sure, Why not?" I shrug and then turn my attention to Renee who was quite pretty despite her edgy style; if my mother could see her around me, she would lose her mind. "I'm Avalyn Jane, it's nice to meet you!"
"It's nice to meet you too, Avalyn. I'm Renee Davis." I hear her say, her voice was calming but with a bit of raspiness like she smokes a little.
I stand up first and grab my stuff, waiting for her to follow me. We both leave the office together and I look at her. "So, what's your schedule?" I ask curiously, wondering if we have classes together because it would be much easier.
I took a look at her schedule and smiled at her softly. Then I took out my schedule to show her mine and compare them.
"Look, we have second period and our lunch periods together. So luckily, I know where your classes are. Let's go show you around then." I said with a shrug and kind smile.
"Thank you, Avalyn." I hear her say and I nod, walking towards her first class. I hold her schedule in my hands and look at the names of the teachers on the doors, then finally stop at her first period.
