❝ SUNNY SIDE UP, UP! ❞

WORD COUNT: 2,152.

"Tine," Sarawat stared at his boyfriend with slightly widened eyes, speaking in that sharp tone he used only when something had been done wrong, "what is that?"

". . . Wat—" the raven haired male attempted, but was swiftly cut off by the expression his lover's displeasure.

"You better be about to tell me that Man and Type got another dog for us to dogsit," Sarawat warned, leaving no room for confusion as to where he stood on the matter.

"I couldn't help myself," Tine replied, in a manner that was something akin to a whimper, "I really did try, but—"

"Not hard enough," the brunet finished the sentence in his place, annoyance very clearly lacing through his words.

"Sarawat, listen," Tine reached out with his free hand, attempting to take hold of his boyfriend's own, (which was swiftly denied as the former pulled away roughly.)

"I'm listening," came a bitter sounding response with a nippy bite, "so talk."

"Twinkie was the only puppy left from his litter," Tine expressed, attempting to prey on his lover's emotional side, "I couldn't just—"

"You already gave it a name?" Sarawat was quick to cut in once more.

"You can't listen if you're too busy talking," Tine pointed out.

Though he was right in saying that, Sarawat was still quick to roll his eyes in reply. To his credit, however, he did keep his mouth shut after that.

"I didn't mean to," Tine prefaced, "—I didn't walk out of the flat this morning thinking 'oh, let me get a dog and upset my boyfriend with it.' I was coming home and an animal shelter was hosting an outdoor adoption day in the park. . . I only meant to look, —I swear. There were lots of dogs, even some cats, and I just stopped by to pet some. That's it. I never had the intention of adopting any of them, but then I saw a woman walk away with a puppy from Twinkie's litter, and he was the last one there, all alone in this big pen. . . He stared at the woman while she walked away, and then he tilted his head to the side like he didn't understand what was happening, because all of a sudden he was completely alone and had none of his littermates to play with."

The small bundle of brown fur in Tine's arms wriggled a bit, eager to get down and play. Eyes pulling away from Sarawat for a second, Tine smoothed his lithe fingers over the length of the puppy's head, all the way to the middle point of his back, attempting to fend off his restlessness for just a bit longer.
