I listened as the dried leaves crackled, the trees whistled, the day was clear but I was down. I sat by the window of my room looking at the scenario of chirping birds, swinging trees and roaming of beautiful butterflies. will all this make my parents quit arguing?
my parents have been married for 18 years, they had me not long after marriage but still fight. as an only child i think im the only reason they are together. now it disturbs since im going to keep up with this till i get admission into the university and practically i have been at home for about four months now and trust im not going to lie to myself things are getting no better.
"Bella! come down now dear, food is ready" i heard my mom yell "okay mom! on my way" i replied as i stood up and made my way downstairs. while we were eating like the small happy family we are not my dad turned to me.
"i thought i should let you know of what i have decided" my dad said looking at me in the eye. "so i have decided you are going to Hungary to school " my dad finally dropped the bomb, he left me speechless but my mom just wouldn't keep shut.
"my daughter is going no where, in fact how are you planning to pay? oh i see you have not told your daughter you lost your job, right?" my mum said laughing and clapping like the mad woman she in not.
"Rose! Rose!" i listened as my dad warned my mom.
"daddy is it true i whispered underneath my breath "Bella just go up, i have scores to settle with your mum" my dad said i knew this was going to bring up a fight but i left
"I am going to do anything to provide the best for my daughter and i can battle the whole world, she did not get any admissions yet here in Nigeria for her course so i tried Hungary and she was accepted, what's your issue" dad screamed as i eavesdropped throughout the fight.
apparently, dad lost his job almost six months ago and before mom found out he would leave the house his usual time and stop at a joint, then he would come back home his normal time. but mom being the snooker she is found out later on.
practically mom was right how was he going to pay the fees? but i trust dad, he would never take a responsibility he cant handle. how do i speak to dad and let him know i feel sorry for what he is going through? i do not even know what he has been going through all this while, how does his relationship with mom get any better now she would do nothing but laugh at him. what of my dreams? now i know my dreams are forever dreams.
literally all my friends i finished with are already out of the country or at popular high class universities or at Nile, but Bella is still here in Nigeria, the Nigeria self in Abuja, the Abuja in Garki. "I am pathetic" i whisper to myself.
I cant freak out now cause this is the time my parents need my cooperation the most, and i do not know what is out there in the world for us.
